Polurrian on the Lizard Wins Afternoon Tea of the Year Award

Polurrian on The Lizard

Cornwall's Polurrian on The Lizard hotel has been awarded Food & Beverage Magazine's award for the Best Presented Afternoon Tea of The Year.

The hotel was one of 15 establishments (selected from 150 entries) to be invited to the final in London on Friday 14th June to showcase their Afternoon Teas.

The Polurrian on The Lizard was the only hotel in the South West to be shortlisted, and its winning menu was inspired by the beautiful hotel setting of the Lizard Peninsula and was made using locally sourced ingredients that were transported to London on the morning of the final by the team.

Deputy General Manager of the Polurrian on The Lizard, Ricky Dent, says, “We are so proud to have competed against some of the biggest 5-star hotels in the country. The Judges complimented us on the provenance of our food, and I believe that this and the fact we draw upon our local area as inspiration for the menu design, really gave us the winning edge.”

The Afternoon Tea comprised a selection of sweet and savoury treats (see below) and was served with a glass of refreshing Camel Valley Brut, Cornish sparkling wine and a cup of Cornish Smugglers Brew Tea.

  • Fergus Muller designed Cornish Pasty made with Boscarnon beef & Helford blue cheese
  • Matthew Stevens hot smoked mackerel & Roskillys mango chutney & lizard leaf on Baker Tom's wholemeal bread served with a side of Jane Sanderson Cornish Dipping Sand
  • The Proudfoot families Cornish Smuggler cheddar cheese & Roskillys tomato chutney & basil on Baker Tom's bloomer
  • Neythan Hayes Dead Man Fingers Coffee Rum & orange torte with orange gel and candied peal
  • Trevaskis Farm Strawberry & cream Macaron
  • Wild coastal path dandelion mousse with mullion honey & burdock jelly
  • Polgoon winery elderflower & pear éclair
  • A scone served with Roskilly's strawberry jam and Roddas clotted cream

The Award-Winning Cornish Afternoon Tea[1] will be available for guests and local residents to enjoy (in addition to the popular standard Afternoon and Cream Teas[2]), from the 28th June.
