theblpblog You can't beat this view from the Hohensalzburg Fortress nestled high above the rooftops of Salzburg's Baroque historical district. As the largest, fully preserved castle in Central Europe, this emblem of #Salzburg offers an incredible 360-degree view of the city and its surroundings. What do you think?⁣

Salzburg is a city that must be seen from above - it has so much magic and culture in its buildings. The fall colors were just starting to shine through in early October and we loved not only the view but our tour of the fortress and the three on-site museums and well. Even better, you can get to the fortress on foot or like us, by means of the Fortress Funicular, which was a very cool experience.⁣
⁣
The fortress was built in the year 1077 by archbishop Gebhard and reconstructed to what we see today under archbishop Leonhard von Keutschach in 1500. It was meant to protect the principality and the archbishops from hostile attacks. In all of its years, it has never been captured by foreign troops. Pretty impressive.⁣
⁣

This incredible view is the countryside just outside of #Salzburg.
We took The Sound of Music tour with @panoram_tours and visited multiple filming locations and learned so much about the history of the movie and the original family. If you're ever in Salzburg we highly recommend it - especially if you're a fan of the movie like Darcee.
Austria is one of our favorite places to visit, we've been multiple times and can't wait to be back to show Ricky how special it is!

One of the oldest Ferris Wheels in existence, it does not disappoint. Darcee loves #FerrisWheels and this is still one of her favorites to date. It is also part of #PraterAmusementPark so visitors can spend the day enjoying old and new rides and traditions in the heart of #Vienna. The park itself was built and open to the public in 1766 while #WienerRiesenrad was added in 1897.⁣

So much so that we often search them out when we travel - especially if there is something unique or special about them.⁣

So, it was an absolute must for her to ride the Wiener Riesenrad Ferris Wheel in Vienna! One of the world's oldest Ferris wheels - it was built in 1897 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Emperor Franz Josef I. Like a lot of #Vienna it was severely damaged in WWII, but luckily they restored it to its former glory - however, only 15 gondolas were replaced, rather than its original 30. 🚠⁣
⁣
The Vienna Ferris wheel stopped for the first time in 73 years due to the coronavirus pandemic. On May 29, 2020, it was ceremoniously put back into operation by Vienna's Mayor to set an example for Vienna's awakening.⁣

Pro Tip: Riesenrad is part of #PraterAmusementPark, expect to spend an entire day taking in the sites and enjoying the park - which was built and opened to the public in 1766 🎠⁣

One of the best ways to enjoy the colors is to climb the 270 steps to the dome of #BerlinCathedral. On the outer walkway, you will be rewarded with some of the best #PanoramicViews of the city's historic center as well as the Spree River and Museum Island.⁣⁣⁣

At 50 meters high visitors have the perfect all-around view of the area and also get a closer look at the exterior of the dome as well as the eight bronze angels with their musical instruments that adorn it.⁣⁣

The walk around the dome is included in the tour of the cathedral.⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
As the largest Protestant church in Germany, it holds some of the most important dynastic tombs in Europe and is used for state ceremonies, concerts, and other events in addition to church services.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The church has gone through multiple expansions and renovations over the last 100＋ years - especially after it was bombed by allied forces in WWII - but it remains spectacular and is definitely worth a visit.⁣⁣

The Brandenburg Gate is now a symbol of freedom and unification for many. After the fall of the #BerlinWall in Nov. 1989, the #BrandenburgGate border crossing was reopened in December when Helmut Kohl, the West German chancellor, walked through to be greeted by Hans Modrow, the East German prime minister. A year later, the official ceremony to mark the reunification of Germany took place here. At midnight on October 3rd, the black, red, and gold flag of West Germany—now the flag of a reunified Germany—was raised over the gate. These are only a couple of the countless historical moments that took place on this spot - and it was incredible to see in person.⁣⁣

Of course, Berlin is full of history, but the art, culture, and architecture are worth exploring as well.⁣⁣

We had a surreal moment waking up in the city (we arrived late at night and were a little discombobulated - literally got off the train and went straight to our hotel). The next morning we realized that we were staying in East Berlin - a very cool and humbling experience.⁣⁣

Did you know that it is actually a traditional folk festival for the entire family - it isn't just about the beer (although it is a perk). There are plenty of things for families to do as well, from great food to nostalgic attractions and Bavarian customs to carnival rides and shopping booths, Oktoberfest has it all.⁣

But, how cool are the beer and food "tents?"⁣

If you haven't been, we highly recommend this #bucketlistadventure in #Munich. In fact, visiting #Germany in the #fall is magical.⁣

Pro tip: only bags smaller than 3 liters are allowed (purses generally make the cut) but there are options to store actual luggage in lockers for a nominal fee.⁣
