The Icelandic Culinary Team have walked away with two gold medals at one of the world's premier food competitions – 'EXPOGAST 2014 – The Culinary World Cup'. The Icelandic team struck gold in the categories: 'Culinary Art Table' and 'Hot Kitchen'. The event which takes place every four years is a firm favourite for gastronomy lovers from around the world.

This year 'EXPOGAST 2014 – The Culinary World Cup', took place between 22-26 November in Luxembourg andwas opened by Worldchef's president and popular Icelandic chef – Gissur Gudmundsson. The event, attracting more than 3,000 chefs across the globe, showcased artistic culinary creations,as gastronomic battles ensued in a number of high-calibre gastronomy competitions.  More than 56 countries took part in the global competition in a bid to convince 50 well-known chefs for the chance of winning a number of accolades.

Icelandic team captain, Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson, said “It´s a great success for the team. We have worked day and night at making the art table unique. For the last 18 months we have practiced hard and that really paid off. To win both of the categories we compete in in the World Cup is fantastic. This young team has worked very hard and the team spirit is great.”

The successful team included: Haflidi Halldorsson (Garri), Thrainn Freyr Vigfusson captain and chef at Lava Restaurant Blue Lagoon, Viktor Orn Andresson  (Lava Restaurant Blue Lagoon), Fannar Vernhardsson (VOX), Bjarni Siguroli Jakobsson (Slippbarinn), Ylfa Helgadottir (Kopar), Hafsteinn Olafsson (Apotekid), Axel Clausen (Fish Market), Gardar Kari Gardarsson (Strikid), Daniel Cochran (Kolabrautin), Ari Thor Gunnarsson (Fish Company), Hrafnkell Sigridarson (Bunk Bar) og Maria Shramko sugar artist.
