One of Wollongong's best kept secrets is out, with Novotel Wollongong Northbeach announcing PEPE's on the beach as the new name for the bar/restaurant currently taking shape in the space which formerly housed the popular Beach Bar.
Promising a slice of the Mediterranean with a hint of Bondi, PEPE's on the Beach will open its doors in December to reveal a striking nautical theme that pays homage to the Mediterranean style of the Greek Islands. White-washed floors and bright colours will set the tone for a stylish setting with a strong European influence.
And it's not just the décor that's getting a major facelift; other changes differentiating PEPE's on the beach from its predecessor include the venue's opening hours – day and evening - plus the option of inside or al fresco seating.
Novotel Wollongong Northbeach general manager, Steve Savic says PEPE's on the beach is a truly unique offering that will complement other bars and restaurants in Wollongong.
“This really is the style of venue people have been waiting for in Wollongong. The space that will now be known as PEPE's on the beach holds many memories for people in its former guise as the Beach Bar. However, we recognise the market has changed and we know people want more than just a bar open at night, especially in our location. This has been a really exciting time for our team, getting ready for what is sure to be a busy and fun summer, so we can make new memories with our customers.”
The name PEPE's on the beach was inspired by a family holiday enjoyed by its owners, Oscars Hotels. After enjoying many happy times at a small bar called PEPE's in the Mediterranean, they vowed to recreate the essence of the venue back home in Australia one day. Upon the purchase of Novotel Wollongong Northbeach, they realised they had found the perfect spot to do just that.
