12 November 2014 – The travel industry's leading players were revealed today at the tenth annual Business Traveller China (BTC) Awards ceremony. The presentations were made during dinner at The Westin Bund Center, Shanghai, attended by around 300 key individuals.
As always, the results were dictated by the highly discerning readership of Business Traveller China, representing crucial customer feedback. Votes were collected via the annual Reader Poll and the response rate this year is 13.6 per cent.
While a number of winners have held onto their crowns from previous years, fierce competition also meant there were also a number of new champions.
The airline category resembled a clash of the titans this year between Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Cathay Pacific (CX) in particular. SIA built upon its success from the previous year, retaining the title of Best Airline in the World, as well as Best Airline First Class and Best Airline Business Class – reclaiming the latter award back from CX. CX did not leave empty handed, however, winning Best Asian Airline Serving China, which SIA won in 2013. Other winners included Air China, which were once again named Best Chinese Airline serving China, and CX's sister airline Dragonair, which were voted Best Airline Economy Class.
No change for the best airports, with Incheon Airport, Hong Kong International Airport and Singapore Changi Airport retaining the titles for Best Airport Duty Free in the World, Best Airport in China and Best Airport in the World respectively.
Familiar names also popped up in the hotel categories. Grand Hyatt was once again named Best Hotel Brand in the World while Shangri-La held the top spot for Best Hotel Brand in China. Three new award categories created a buzz of excitement; Best Luxury Hotel in China was awarded to The Peninsula Shanghai, Best Design Hotel in China was won by Hotel Éclat Beijing, while Langham Place Guangzhou took home the trophy for Best MICE Hotel in China. Another new entrant was the Jing An Shangri-La, West Shanghai, which was highlighted as the Best New Business Hotel in China, won by Mandarin Oriental Pudong Shanghai last year.
In the serviced apartment category, Ascott reigned supreme, walking away with the top spot of Best Serviced Residence Brand in China and the Ascott Huai Hai Road Shanghai winning Best Serviced Residence in China.
Another highlight of the evening was a performance by guest of honour Mr Joe Junior, a famous Hong Kong singer and actor. His vocal styling earned the audience's earnest applause.
A full list of the winners will appear in January/February 2015 issue of Business Traveller China.
The Business Traveller Asia-Pacific and China Charity Auction 2014 is also now open for bids. All proceeds will be going towards the Chi Heng Foundation, which helps thousands of children and youngsters affected by HIV and AIDS in rural China.
