Tampa, FL (May 23, 2024) – The Hillsborough County hospitality industry continues to perform well as Tourist Development Tax (TDT) collections topped $7 million for the second-straight month — the first time ever in the county's history that collections have reached $7 million in back-to-back months.
These record TDT numbers make April and March 2024 the second- and third-highest months in the history of the county, with April coming in just 1.9% shy of the record set in April 2023, and a significant 9% increase over the same month in 2022. April numbers (March collections) increased by 5% from March, reaching $7,645,261 on the heels of last month's TDT collections of $7,290,274.
As cumulative collections for the fiscal year reached $39,680,268, April's hotel occupancy stayed strong at 76.4%, matching last year's figure. The Average Daily Rate (ADR) reached $181.45 with Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) coming in at $138.65. April and year-to-date Hotel Taxable Revenue remain robust at $107,122,882 and $451,073,987 respectively, reflecting last year's record-setting numbers.
“Back-to-back months of near record collections, combined with consistently high hotel revenue in Hillsborough County, are key indicators that our region remains a top destination choice for business and leisure travelers,” said Santiago C. Corrada, President and CEO of Visit Tampa Bay. “As we look to summer, we're honored to welcome major conventions with two world-class organizations to Tampa: the historic Omega Psi Phi Fraternity for their 84th Grand Conclave, and Destination International's annual convention. Tampa Bay remains strong in comparison to other destinations in the convention competitive set, ranking second in hotel occupancy.
