Explore English Winemaking at Langham Wine Estate: From Self-Guided Tastings to Winemaker's Tours

Langham Wine Estate

Set in the rural landscape of Dorset, Langham Wine Estate invites visitors, year-round, to explore the world of English winemaking. The estate, located near Dorchester, has seen an increase in visitors, prompting the addition of a new experience and the renovation of a barn into an al fresco tasting area.

The newly launched Winemaker's Tour (£37.50 per person) offers guests a journey through the vineyards and winery. Guided by Head Winemaker Tommy Grimshaw, visitors will learn about Langham Wine Estate's growth from a small vineyard to a world-renowned wine producer. This 90 minute tour includes a tasting of Langham's award-winning English sparkling wines, featuring rare and limited edition releases. Due to its popularity, spaces are limited with the remaining dates available on Friday 9th August, Friday 13th September, Friday 8th November and Friday 6th December at 10.30am.

Additional experiences:

  • Guided Tour and Tasting (£25 per person): A two hour tour showcasing all the stages in producing world-class, traditional method sparkling wines. Includes a vineyard and winery walk followed by a tasting of three wines.
  • Self-Guided Tasting & Vineyard Walk (£15 per person): Visitors can leisurely explore the South West's largest single estate vineyard, with informative signs and a tasting of three wines. Available Tuesday to Sunday, between 10.30am and 3pm. Pre-booking is recommended.
  • Private tours: Available for groups of 8 or more upon request.
  • All tastings and tours can be paired with an optional lunch and glass of fizz package for an additional £25.00.

The newly renovated barn, previously used for storing farm machinery, now serves as a permanent al fresco tasting area with a bar and seating for over 100 people, plus a stage for local musicians and DJs. The unique space also features a bespoke wall built from past wine bottles, infrared heaters and a panoramic view of the vines.

Making the most of the summer sun, the on-site Langham Vineyard Café has launched Fizz Fridays (£55 per person). Celebrating Dorset seafood, the Summer Seafood Sessions offer a seasonal selection of market shellfish, cooked in the outdoor kitchen, warm breads and a chef-served salad bar. Accompanied by performances from local artists Nina Garcia (5th July), Porlock Music (19th July), TBD (2nd August) and Under The Carousel (30th August). The price includes dinner and live music, with Langham's wines and other drinks available for purchase.

Notes to editors:

The Langham Wine Estate is a single vineyard estate nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside. Taking the greatest of care and pride in their craft, they hand harvest their fruit and take a low intervention approach to wine-making, with all of their wines both vegan and vegetarian friendly. With a south-facing aspect, chalk soils and a unique microclimate, Langham's 85 acre vineyard provides the perfect terroir for ripening the classic Champagne varieties - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

Head Winemaker, Tommy Grimshaw, is not your traditional winemaker, having worked his way up from labelling wine when he left school after his first year of A Levels, he broke new ground by becoming the UK's youngest head winemaker when he was just 24 years old. Now 28, he continually strives to be creative in his winemaking, not bound by technical 'rules' with a focus on a low intervention approach, and the results he achieves are outstanding.

In June, Langham Wine Estate celebrated fifteen years since planting its vineyard at Crawthorne Farm by planting 13,000 new Chardonnay vines, on the final 10 acres of its planned expansion. Chardonnay is one of the three classic Champagne varieties grown on the estate, along with Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. With a south-facing aspect, chalk soils and a unique microclimate, Crawthorne Vineyard provides a perfect terroir for ripening these grape varieties.

2024 has also seen Langham Wine Estate celebrate the Chardonnay grape and the exceptional vintage of 2022, releasing 'Search for Enlightenment', a limited edition still Chardonnay. Priced at £23.95, this elegant wine reflects the estate's cool climate and chalk soils, fermented with wild yeast and aged in old oak. It is the first wine from Langham to be bottled in reused glass bottles and is available to buy at langhamwine.co.uk.

In 2020 the Langham Wine Estate won the coveted Best Sparkling Wine Producer award at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC), beating some of the best French champagne houses as well as sparkling wines from around the rest of the world.
