Catalonia stands out as a world-class destination for holding major international sports fairs and congresses. With a combination of exceptional resources, a powerful business and research ecosystem, and a wealth of experience in organising events, the region has become one of the sports industry's top locations. In terms of sport, Catalonia is host to many highlevel competitions, steeped in tradition. These include the Volta Ciclista Catalunya as well as the upcoming edition of the America's Cup.

The Volta Ciclista Catalunya continues to take firm steps in its commitment to women's cycling. With the support of the Generalitat de Catalunya through Esportcat, from June 7 to 9, 2024 the first edition of the Women's Volta a Catalunya will take place. This three-day stage race replaces the reVolta, following four editions held as a one-day race.

The race will have three very varied stages with presence in much of the Catalan territory, including one stage with a mountain finish. The Women's Volta a Catalunya aims to attract top-tier cyclists with its varied routes and significant mountainous sections.

The Women's Volta a Catalunya will kick off in style on Friday, June 7, from Manresa. The first stage will commence and conclude in the capital of Bages, showcasing the city and its surrounding region. Notably, Manresa has been honored as the European City of Sport 2024, highlighting its sporting excellence. The race start adds to the city's sporting calendar, enhancing its reputation as a hub for athletic events throughout 2024.

The second stage, keeping intact the identity of the Volta, will spotlight the mountains. Covering a distance of 95.7 kilometers, the stage will commence from La Seu d'Urgell and include two first-category mountain passes: Collada de Toses and La Molina. The stage will culminate at La Molina, the famed mountain station of “Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya,” marking the race's first high-altitude finish in its history.

The Women's Volta will conclude with a thrilling third stage covering 119.1 kilometers from Molins de Rei to Barcelona. With a hilly profile featuring two categorized climbs, this stage will determine the inaugural winner of the race.

Catalonia offers an extensive and varied network of backroads that are ideal for cycle tourism throughout the year. That's why many tour operators, such as Exodus, offer peaceful and panoramic routes that invite travellers to ride their bikes while they discover surprisingly varied, natural, and unique locations, visiting small towns and trying the local traditional cuisine. Many of these roads are the setting for important stages of the Tour de France and the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya.
