Urban sauna experiences, Finnish sauna traditions and the world's largest smoke sauna
Sauna is an essential part of the Finnish summer, and Sauna Region Week is an excellent opportunity to enjoy sauna experiences and expand one's sauna knowledge. The Sauna Region Week program includes sauna sessions and treatments in different types of saunas, such as smoke saunas, beach saunas, and traditional saunas. There are also special features in the program.
For example, one can enjoy urban sauna experiences in the courtyard of Villa Rana with a DJ or climb onto the benches of the world's largest smoke sauna at Tupaswilla, suggests the travel advisor from Visit Jyväskylä Region, Rinna Valjakka.
The unique 'Sauno syvämmen kyllyyvestä' sauna event is the joint effort of four saunas and five female entrepreneurs.
We want to highlight local culture and Finnish sauna tradition, and what better way than to be part of Sauna Region Week, says one of the entrepreneurs Jenni Numminen.
One of the event participants is The Sauna Village in Jämsä, presenting the traditional smoke sauna culture of Finland from 1700's to 1940's. Traditional vihta treatments are available at the Sauna Village during the Sauna Region Week.
Sauna event weeks twice this year
In addition to Sauna Region Week, travellers have a great opportunity to enjoy sauna bathing during the Sauna Rally event (from July 30th to August 4th) held as a part of the Finnish WRC competition Secto Rally Finland. The Sauna Rally programme will be updated during June.
Jyväskylä Region was declared the World Sauna Region in 2015. Jyväskylä region's Sauna Region Week will be held from June 3rd to June 9th, 2024 and the Sauna Rally from July 30th to August 4th. The programmes can be found at and will be updated until the events:
