STUART, Fla. (April 29, 2024) – The Martin County Office of Tourism & Marketing is excited to announce a new partnership with Wheel the World, an innovative a travel solution for people with disabilities that allows users to research destinations and book hotels and experiences that match their accessibility needs.
As part of the Tourism Office's ongoing efforts to make Martin County a more accessible and inclusive destination, this partnership was achieved through a VISIT FLORIDA cooperative marketing program. Martin County was one of 20 destinations in Florida to join this pioneering program.
Earlier this year, the Wheel the World team ventured to Martin County to complete a destination audit, including in-depth accessibility assessments at more than 30 points of interest, including local hotels, restaurants, boutiques, parks, attractions, and more. Their proprietary assessment analyses approximately 200 data points across mobility-related, sensorial (auditory and visual), and cognitive disabilities.
The partnership also includes product development in the form of custom listings on the Wheel the World platform, enabling travelers to book hotel stays and experiences directly. Their team also offers online training and certification programs, promotional opportunities through social media and public relations efforts, and analytics data for partners. A champion for accessible travel, Wheel the World has established relationships and original content for more than 250 destinations in 50 countries worldwide.
“We all have different needs when it comes to accessibility, and planning for a trip can pose unique challenges for travelers with disabilities – especially when there is a lack of vital information,” said Nerissa Okiye, Martin County Tourism Director. “Our new partnership with Wheel the World empowers potential visitors with a wealth of knowledge about our local points of interest so they can book with confidence. Our team remains dedicated to promoting inclusive travel practices and making Martin County an even more accessible destination for visitors of all abilities.”
