Leighton House is excited to welcome guests to experience a new level of luxury in a spectacular Australian farm setting.
The beautiful homestead ensconced in Northern Tasmania wine country is located near the historic Evandale village and only 20 minutes from Launceston. Built from a deep passion for bringing family and friends together, Leighton House is a place to celebrate, connect, and restore.
Comfortably appointed for two to twelve guests, Leighton House is perfect for entertaining and hosting, an al fresco sauna and spa experience, or simply enjoying a glass of wine in front of one of the home's roaring fireplaces. There is a slice of luxury for everyone at this family-friendly homestead.
Heritage thoughtfully curated
Preserving history, championing sustainability, and a passion for Australian contemporary art has informed every decision in the restoration and renovation of Leighton House.
The Georgian home, built in 1840, consists of three grand ensuite bedrooms and study while the newly appointed wing is home to an open plan kitchen, living and dining and upstairs, the ultimate bunk room featuring six double bed bunks, teen retreat and pool room.
Conceptualised by award winning Hobart architectural firm, Core Collective the new building is designed to complement the original home, clad with locally- sourced carbon neutral bricks made 15km away in Longford. The fine structure of the new double-glazed steel-framed windows and doors highlight the surrounding garden and rural views.
A protected courtyard and glass atrium connects the old and new parts of the home with outdoor cooking. A modern farmhouse hearth for outside entertaining. A sandstone wellness platform sits lightly in the landscaped garden with mountain views, featuring a hot tub, sauna, yoga platform and fire pit.
Interior styling has been curated by Kirsten Bookalil of Stanwix Studios. The colour scheme draws inspiration from the vivid blues and greens of the Tasmanian landscape, complementing original Tasmanian antiques and a superb contemporary Australian art collection.
Surrounded by rolling farmlands
The one-of-a-kind property sits on 300 acres of farmland boasting expansive views of the Ben Lomond Mountain Range and Western Tiers and a unique position on the pristine South Esk River.
For food and wine lovers, Leighton House is placed perfectly at the start of the Tamar Valley wine route and a stone's throw from Launceston's internationally recognised food cultural scene, a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, one of only 49 around the world.
Adventure enthusiasts won't be disappointed with Blue Derby Mountain Biking, Ben Lomond Base Camp (skiing and hiking) and golfing at Barnbougle Dunes right on the doorstep. For those looking to make Leighton House a base for trips further afield, Wine Glass Bay and Cradle Mountain make easy day trips.
Guests will have the opportunity to be part of the vibrant farm life at Leighton House. The property continues its long association with the equine industry. Leighton Stud bred draft horses for the mainland and later, Tasmania's first Melbourne Cup winner Piping Lane. Today the farm is home to 15 horses, 100 Angus cows, friendly hares, rabbits and wild Sliver Speckled Hamburg chickens.
