First Australian passenger vessel to adopt GIT Coatings' innovative technologies
Coral Expeditions, Australia's pioneering cruise line, proudly unveils a significant milestone in their commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation. Coral Adventurer has undergone a transformative upgrade, incorporating cutting-edge hull surface technology to redefine eco-friendly and fuel-efficient maritime operations.
Coral Adventurer now features the XGIT-FUEL hull coating, an innovative low-friction hard foul release hull coating developed by GIT Coatings. Distinguished from conventional coatings by its exceptional durability, XGIT-FUEL boasts an anticipated lifespan of approximately ten years. This extended lifespan not only reduces maintenance intervals but also guarantees consistent performance throughout prolonged operational periods. Utilizing graphene, XGIT-FUEL not only enhances fuel efficiency but also eliminates the need for harmful antifouling agents, thus safeguarding marine ecosystems.
Beyond the hull, Coral Adventurer has embraced XGIT-PROP, a graphene-based propeller coating system engineered to endure the most rigorous conditions. Empirical studies affirm that XGIT-PROP holds the potential to curtail fuel consumption by up to 4%, further heightening the operational efficiency and environmental sustainability of the Coral Adventurer.
“These advancements exemplify Coral Expeditions' dedication to pioneering sustainable practices within the expedition cruising sector,” said Mark Fifield, Managing Director. “As the first Australian vessel to adopt GIT Coatings' innovative technologies, Coral Adventurer is setting the pace towards a greener, more responsible future for maritime exploration and the remainder of our fleet will follow within the maintenance schedule of the coming year”.
Coral Expeditions is a Hall of Fame recipient from Eco Tourism Australia and adopts industry best practice in caring for the environment and communities of the remote and pristine places we visit.
