Layer on the decadence. QT Newcastle's Executive Chef, Shayne Mansfield welcomes Dessert King, Reece Hignell of Cakeboi, into the kitchen to create an indulgent high tea, QTea, any way you slice it.
QT Hotels & Resorts has long pioneered the philosophy of 'expect the unexpected', and that's exactly what guests can expect with these two Novocastrian talents in tow. Served in QT Newcastle's signature restaurant, Jana, the two-course affair features a mix of sweet and savoury dishes and promises tiers, trolleys and an appetite for the unconventional. Guests will work their way through tiered savouries by QT Newcastle's award-winning chef, and can expect delicacies including charcoal bread, duck leg croquette plus the merguez sausage pie, Shayne's take on a traditional pie.
Then, cake. Make way for the Cakeboi trolley meeting you at every turn at Jana. Claim a slice of layered Honey cake or flag down the fluffiest Victoria strawberry sponge. Sweet delicacies are served from trolley to table, for an elegant rebellion against tradition. Hignell calls the partnership a 'no-brainer', as both he and Shayne, pay homage to family recipes passed down through generations. Adding an additional layer of unconventional, QTea will also offer an equally sumptuous plant-based menu, trialled and tested by Reece, a plant-based pioneer.
“QT Newcastle is iconic; it's a masterpiece,” says Reece Hignell, founder and owner of Cakeboi. “Collaborating with the talented Executive Chef, Shayne Mansfield has been nothing but harmonious. His innovative cooking style complements the artistic architecture of the building.”
QTea attendees will receive a riotous welcome with QTea's signature Ketel Iced Tea cocktail, infused with premium Ketel One Vodka. For those who prefer to flex their littlest finger without the boozy punch of fun, QT Newcastle have collaborated with local tea merchant, The Tea Collective, to create a bespoke QT Breakfast Tea blend, an infusion of vanilla bean and sweet currants.
QT Newcastle's General Manager, Michael Stamboulidis, says, “We are thrilled to launch the highly anticipated QTea at QT Newcastle. Both Shayne and Reece share incredible synergy attributing their love of cooking to their grandmothers. Reece's personality and flair is baked in each of his cakes, setting the stage for a unique experience fit for all demographic, ages and occasions. Our Executive Chef, Shayne Mansfield, has worked tirelessly to develop bite size classic, with a twist, drawing inspiration from his culinary journey across the globe.”
