Eric's Fish and Chips - Best Fish & Chip Restaurant in Norfolk & East Anglia

Visit East of England

Eric's nostalgic fish and chip restaurant Eric's love of cooking, spurred his desire to open his own fish chip shop in 2015. “We just wanted fish and chips in the traditional way, like I remembered it as a child living in Titchwell, on the coast in Norfolk”.

Eric says “There were many categories at this year's fish and chip awards, so to be top 5 in the UK and the ONLY restaurant in Norfolk and across East Anglia to be in the top 5 was a huge bonus.” Another Norfolk fish and chip shop in Wells won an accreditation champion award, however, we are proud to say we are best restaurant in Norfolk.

70S VIBE
The design and experience of the restaurant was important to Eric too. Eric said “We worked with Interior designer Shaun Clarkson to create a unique environment, marrying traditions of fish and chips with the industrial history of the building” and you can see how that works in the details of the lighting, menu boards and relaxed layout, giving it a nostalgic 70s vibe. QUALITY AND SKILL
It has always been about quality for Eric. In busy season Eric's team makes new batter every 20 minutes. The skill of hand-cutting fish has been passed down to his team too. That means Eric chooses the large 16-32oz cuts of fish he likes, cutting this down to get a beautiful shaped piece of fish. Eric explains “With this large piece of fish you get a head piece, a fat loin, rather than a portion fillet with a tail”. This passing down of skills to he team is an important part of the ethos of Eric's.

Inventing NEW FOOD
Eric also loves to experiment so nostalgia doesn't make him look too far back. “I just love the creativity of it. It's like, why wouldn't you want every meal you have to look and taste special. That's what I love about being a chef.” Eric's has now got 14 different small plates. The idea is that these can be shared with family and friends or eaten on their own as a taster. These include Halloumi and Arancini balls, Vegan Crispy Lemon 'Prawns' and Cheesy Pea Fritter which has a melt in the mouth smoked cheese.

Don't forget Delia's dessert favourite...
Delia Smith raved about Eric's deep fried jam sandwich this summer and it's now featured on her menu at Yellows restaurant in Norwich football ground. “A sweet treat dessert favourite” Eric says, “is deep fried jam sandwich, just like a squidgy warm doughnut” They seem to ooze child-like nostalgia. Hattie Garlick said she saw it “Rising like a phoenix from the fryer” in the Daily Telegraph on 14 July 2023.
