The popular Muddy Boots Walking Holidays, which operates self-guided, guided, and social walks in Yorkshire, is expanding its routes into the Lake District from Spring 2024.
Two brand new routes – 'The Heart of Lakeland' and 'Explore Ullswater' - will launch in March 2024, taking in the best of the Lake District with a choice of high or low-level routes depending on personal preference.
Walking breaks typically start from four nights, with each trip fully organised and tailored to walkers' requirements with luggage transfers, detailed route notes and maps, packed lunches, and a 'Survival Pack' of thoughtful extras that showcase each area, included as standard.
Muddy Boots works with some of the Lake District's best places to stay to ensure each walking day culminates with a little bit of comfort, and good food and drink in either stylish inns with rooms or popular hotels in iconic locations.
Co-founders, Matt and Helen Coppin, have meticulously walked every inch of each path and trail guaranteeing spectacular vistas and special discoveries along each route. The husband-and-wife team, who gave up law careers to start Muddy Boots, pride themselves on their attention to detail, personal service, and in-depth knowledge, making each Muddy Boots walking holiday unique.
The Heart of Lakeland and Explore Ullswater are the first two walking holidays to be launched in the Lake District with Muddy Boots planning to introduce additional routes during 2024.
The Heart of Lakeland (4-6 nights) takes in routes from Ambleside in the central Lakes to the Langdale Valley. This holiday offers walkers the best of both worlds with time spent in and around the vibrant town of Ambleside with its many restaurants, cafes, pubs, shops, and cinema, to the solitude, open spaces, history, and stunning scenery of the Langdale Valley. Highlights include a riverside meander along the River Brathay to Elterwater, the Gothic Wray Castle, Beatrix Potter's Hill Top, climbing the Langdale Pikes, Loughrigg Fell and Tarn, the impressive 40-foot chamber of 'Cathedral Cave', and the prettiest packhorse bridge in the area.
Length & cost: High-level and low-level options covering distances up to 63km. From £510pp for 4 nights (3-6 night options also available).
Explore Ullswater (4 nights) takes in a stunning circuit of one of the Lake District's most beautiful lakes and surrounding villages. This holiday offers walkers the chance to get up close to Ullswater with a route skirting much of the lakeshore and exploring the 35km Ullswater Way. A few highlights include the 12 fascinating outdoor installations along the Ullswater Way Heritage Trail plus a virtual art gallery where QR codes along the route reveal individual artwork of each scene. There's also the chance to enjoy a historic, slow-paced steamer ride, visit the impressive Aira Force waterfall, and soak up Angle Tarn and the breathtaking 360-degree views from Angletarn Pikes.
Length & cost: High and low-level options covering distances up to 58km. From £480pp for 4 nights (additional nights can be added).
