To mark Shrove Tuesday, Serenity Holidays, home to specialist travel brands Corsican Places and Sardinian Places, took to the kitchen to battle it out to find the perfect pancake.

Three teams representing all three destinations took part in a mouthwatering showdown as pancake recipes collided in a pancake making competition like never before. Together they bring the gastronomic delights of Corsica, Sardinia, and Great Britain.  

Corsica is known for its Mediterranean influence, Corsican pancakes featured goats' cheese for a savoury twist.  

Sardinian pancakes showcase the island's love for food and have a unique twist. Made with a base of potato the team added saffron, orange and limoncello and covered in sugar.

British traditional pancakes are thin and delicate, and the team drizzled a typically British gin and tonic glaze to finish off.

The competition was held at The Solent Hotel in Whiteley, close to the Serenity headquarters and the hotel also provided an expert panel of judges including their Head Chef, Jonathan Marsden-Jones who had the challenging task of evaluating each pancake based on taste, creativity and authenticity.

Head Chef Jon said, “This competition was certainly flavourful, and it has been really fun researching pancakes from Corsica and Sardinia. The contestants really pulled out all the stops and their passion for these two destinations is clear to see. It weas great fun exploring the boundless possibilities that can unfold from a humble pancake!”

And the winners are...

After intense deliberation, the judges declared Sardinia as the ultimate pancake, with its innovative blend of flavours capturing the essence of the country's culinary traditions. Winning with just one point above Corsica, it was awarded due to the difficulty of the batter.
