Le Boat Expands Canada Holiday Options With New Trent-Severn Destination

Le Boat

Le Boat has revealed exciting plans to increase its global reach by expanding into a new Canadian waterway.

From May 2024, holidaymakers will have a second way to enjoy Canada's natural landscapes, thanks to Le Boat's new destination exploring the picturesque Trent-Severn Waterway and Kawartha Lakes.

Stretching 386 km through central Ontario, the scenic canal route from Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay in Lake Huron passes through a wide range of wildlife-rich eco-systems, making its breathtaking shoreline a nature-lover's paradise. Blending crystal-clear lakes and pristine rivers with Kawartha's charming waterfront towns, the new itinerary is also ideal for those who fancy doing a bit of extra exploration, whether by kayak, canoe or SUP.

Whilst this valued waterway first opened in 1922, its origins hark back to critical routes long used by Indigenous peoples, meaning the journey also offers a fascinating insight into the area's history. In addition to 37 conventional locks and two of the world's highest hydraulic lift locks, the canal also includes Big Chute – the only marine railway of its kind and an engineering marvel in North America – plus five historic locks that are still operated by hand.

The extraordinary route begins at Le Boat's Peterborough base at Horseshoe Bay Marina – just 90 minutes from Toronto – where a luxurious fleet of eight premier Horizon Cruisers, offering two to four bedrooms, awaits. Located on the Otonabee River, which translates as, “river that beats like a heart”, in the Anishinaabe language, the base has the bonus of also being on the open water, meaning customers aren't restricted by locks to start their cruising. For added flexibility, intrepid travellers can choose between a three-to-six-night short break, or a longer seven-to-ten-night trip through a region considered the boating capital of Ontario.

Cheryl Brown, Le Boat's managing director, said: “The Trent-Severn Waterway has been connecting people and places for generations, so we are delighted to be introducing this magical new destination as our second option outside Europe."

“We know that Le Boat customers relish the opportunity our luxury boats offer them, to explore enchanting waterways at a leisurely pace whilst keeping their family fully entertained. We are confident our new route will provide the perfect combination of natural beauty and fascinating history to help travellers relax and unwind in the heart of Ontario Cottage Country”.
