Two Narnia themed trails, organised to celebrate the 125th birthday of author C. S. Lewis, have been extended until the end of the year.
The two C. S. Lewis trails were launched at the Christmas festival and visitors can still enjoy these until the Christmas season is over.
The Narnia Window Art Trail, a collaboration between Malvern Hills District Council, Creatives Connect and Malvern Traders, treats visitors to creative window displays themed around the famous author's books. Participating shops and businesses have received a gas lamp motif around which local artists have created themed window displays. This has created a diverse display of themed windows celebrating the works of C. S. Lewis.
Visitors can also take part in the Great Malvern Gas Lamp Trail where they can see the many lamps that have been restored to their former glory. The trail takes in the gas lamps of Great Malvern as well as stopping by some other C. S. Lewis themed landmarks in the town. The famous tale of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe also unfolds along the way. Maps are available to collect from Great Malvern Tourist Information Office.
Other celebrations for the 125th birthday of C. S. Lewis took place at the Great Malvern Christmas Festival and included the appearance of Aslan the lion, a larger-than-life illuminated puppet, who led the annual lantern parade. There was also lion face painting, storytelling, animatronic polar bear and more.
C.S. Lewis (Clive Staples Lewis) attended Malvern College on a scholarship in the early 1900s. His time at the college may have been what planted the seed for one of the most iconic scenes in The Chronicles of Narnia.
It is said that Lewis had commented on Malvern's collection of gas lamps, and it is possible they provided inspiration for the famous light that signalled the point past which magic could be found.
