November 2023…/ Introducing Cove Valley, a new 300-acre rewilding project with three bespoke luxury cabins in the heart of the Exe Valley on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Cove Valley's purpose is to revive nature and its inhabitants, allowing them to thrive and restore through rewilding the land and creating an integrated experience with nature. Launched by husband and wife duo, Ben and Yolanda Horne, the collection of cabins have been thoughtfully designed by UK-based studio HÁM Interiors to blend in with their natural surroundings. With plans to launch three further cabins and introduce more animals to the area for 2024, Cove Valley is set to become one of the UK's most exciting rewilding projects in the heart of Devon.
STAY
Nestled in the rolling landscape of Cove Valley you'll find three bespoke cabins, each named after Old American culture, offering unparalleled nature experiences. Hopi provides breathtaking views of Cove Valley, while lush forests and ferns surround Ukai. Chatan offers a unique treehouse experience elevated above the woodland. Inside each cabin you'll find an open-plan kitchen and living area, a spacious king-sized bedroom and a bespoke bathroom. Designed to inspire outdoor living, the cabins are equipped with wood-fired bathtubs, additional cooking facilities outside, and a picnic basket to take on a short hike to a stunning sunset spot. Guests are encouraged to explore the trails, animals, streams, lakes, and stone circle located in the valley.
While the cabins are self-catering, guests can purchase locally sourced BBQ and breakfast boxes. The cabins are built on-site and blend in seamlessly with their surroundings, offering guests an immersive experience. All cabins are well-insulated to keep you cosy all year round, with wood-fired stoves to avoid central heating, aligning with the site's dedication to maintaining a harmonious relationship with the environment. Guests are kindly asked to be mindful of their energy and water usage throughout their stay.
NATURE & WILDLIFE
Cove Valley is not just a place to stay; it's also an opportunity to learn about rewilding and the importance of coexisting with nature. By leaving the land untouched for a few years, the owners allowed the natural ecological processes to take place, which resulted in the regeneration of wetlands, woodlands, and grasslands. These habitats provide homes for a diverse range of indigenous wildlife including red deer, roe deer, foxes, badgers, owls, goshawks, beavers, hares, and over 50 species of birds. Cove Valley have also introduced domesticated versions of the previously wild animals that would have roamed, including longhorn cattle, ponies, iron-age pigs, beavers, and white storks to create a more biodiverse habitat.
Guests can explore designated trails leading to strategically positioned feeding stations to attract and accommodate these wild animals. By observing and learning, guests can gain a deeper appreciation for the natural world and the importance of protecting it. It's a chance to reconnect with nature, learn about the local ecosystem, and contribute to the environment by practicing sustainable and mindful living.
DESIGN
The interiors of each cabin were conceived under the creative direction of Tom Cox, co-founder and principal at HÁM Interiors. Inspired by his love of nature and the vast expanse of the great outdoors, Tom and his team have meticulously crafted three exceptional cabins that reflect his affinity for rustic charm and the tranquillity of ranch-style living.
Blending old American influences with a layered arrangement of natural materials, each cabin has its own personality and unique touches. Walls and ceilings feature timber cladding, evoking a cosy feel and welcoming atmosphere. Cross motifs throughout Hopi pay homage to the gable ends commonly found in traditional American barns. At the same time, HÁM Interiors' bespoke joinery showcases craftsmanship, incorporating a Navajo relief on the kitchen cupboards and bathroom vanity. Carefully selected antiques for their weathered patinas and rustic wooden finishes contribute to each cabin's distinctive aesthetic, while authentic artwork commissioned from Studio HÁM's in-house artists lines the walls of each cabin.
RETREAT
Cove Valley is an ideal location for hosting retreats, offering comfortable cabins for accommodation and additional camping space. Facilities include compost toilets and showers and suitable areas for outdoor classes, while a six-metre yurt is available to be used as a communal space for yoga sessions and ceremonies during the retreats. Bespoke retreat packages are available on request.
NOTES FOR GUESTS
Upon arrival at Cove Valley, guests will be greeted by the estate keeper who will escort them to their cabin, where a selection of locally sourced produce is provided on a complimentary basis. Currently, the site is not suitable for children under the age of twelve, and no pets are permitted as the team is actively engaged in the valley's restoration efforts to allow for an untamed wilderness experience.

About the Founders, Ben and Yolanda Horne
Husband and wife Ben and Yolanda Horne have an intriguing background. Yolanda, a Devon native, pursued a degree in Animal Science at Plymouth University and Animal Behaviour at Bristol. Her deep-rooted passion for nature, conservation, and ecology led her to work as a veterinary laboratory assistant before becoming the project manager for rewilding initiatives at Cove Valley and its cabins.
Ben, originally from London, split his childhood between the city and Somerset before settling in Devon over a decade ago. With his family's active involvement in rewilding projects across Scotland and Europe, Ben manages a property portfolio but finds his true passion lies in nature restoration.
In 2016 the couple purchased a 130-acre farm, and in 2018 they began rewilding the land. They expanded the project to encompass 300 acres by collaborating with neighbouring landowners. After allowing the land to rest and removing intensive management, they introduced various animals such as Longhorn cows, Iron Age pigs, ponies, and wild red and roe deer populations. These animals play a crucial role in grazing vegetation and causing disturbance, ultimately fostering greater biodiversity.
Situated amidst neighbouring farms without any adjacent houses, the cabins offer a secluded experience where nature becomes your closest companion. Yolanda and Ben themselves reside in a farmhouse further down the valley.
