HIDDEN GEM: THE CAPITOL HOTEL TAKES CENTRE STAGE AND UNVEILS ITS LATEST TRANSFORMATION

Wednesday, 25 October: The Capitol Hotel, part of the Independent Collection at EVT, officially reopens this week, revealing a stunning transformation and bringing forth the unique character of this historic establishment in the heart of the vibrant city of Sydney.

Located in Haymarket, steps from the iconic Capitol Theatre and moments from Chinatown, Paddy's Market, World Square and Circular Quay, The Capitol Hotel is perfectly positioned in the south of the city to warmly welcome business and leisure guests.

Following an extensive interior renovation of the building, every corner of the hotel features meticulously planned special touches added for guests to discover, from directional carpet and eclectic, modern artworks to bespoke furniture and decor throughout.

Perfect for travellers who wish to enjoy all that Sydney has to offer, the property features:

  • 95 completely transformed rooms across 11 accommodation styles, for solo travellers through to rooms catering to up to seven guests.

  • State-of-the-art tech which provides seamless and connected experiences, from check-in to in-room connectivity. Guests can check-in online from their mobile device or self-service kiosks located in the lobby, while being greeted by the friendly hotel team. "Intelity tablets” in each room enables guest requests to be fulfilled through the touch of a button.

  • The Capitol Kitchen and Bar, located near the lobby of the hotel, takes inspiration from the hotel's prime location next door to Sydney's iconic Capitol Theatre. Its modern Australian menu has been curated as a perfect pre-theatre casual dining option, while also offering a continental breakfast for guests.

Brad Worker, General Manager, The Capitol Hotel, EVT said: "The Capitol Hotel's remarkable transformation embraces its rich history whilst offering a boutique guest experience. From the playful and engaging design elements that immerse guests in a theatrical adventure, to The Capitol Kitchen and Bar boasting a contemporary, delicious menu, this is Sydney's hidden gem.

“We look forward to welcoming guests as they embark on a night in the spotlight, enjoy our comfortable rooms and lose themselves in the views across vibrant Haymarket.”

The head designer for the refurbishment, Andrea D'Cruz assisted in bringing the new design to life within the hotel. A carefully selected colour palette consisting of teal, gold, sage, and red was chosen to evoke moments of theatre, while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for guests. Each floor has been assigned one of the four distinct colours, complemented by matching artwork.

Influenced by the hotel building's unique history - once serving as the Belmore Markets, a circus and a hippodrome - the hotel's quirky design choices has been diverse. The hotel's location next to Sydney's Capitol Theatre also plays a significant role in the design, with carefully curated arched wallpaper and a large curtain feature on the ground floor entrance, drawing on an ambience reminiscent of entering the theatre.

To make a reservation at The Capitol Hotel, please visit the hotel's website or contact via phone (02 9069 5540). Standard room rates starting at $200 per night.

About The Capitol Hotel:

Enter stage left: for a stay that's so right. The stylish new addition to Haymarket is ready to get this show on the road. Find us next to one of Australia's few surviving atmospheric theatres, the heritage-listed Capitol Theatre. Located on the traditional land of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, the site previously hosted a hay marketplace, the occasional circus, vaudeville shows, and a talkies screening or two.

Our esteemed guests will make their entrance under the grand chandelier. From there, we'll meet at reception and you'll have the option to use our self check-in kiosks. Boasting 95 showstopping new rooms, an in-house eatery, and custom art prints throughout, our hotel celebrates the performing arts history and future of the precinct.
