Guests will be transported to the bygone age of luxury steam travel, aboard elegantly appointed vintage carriages with period-details. The journey winds its way from London, along the Thames Valley and south through Hampshire, passing the historic city of Winchester and follows the River Itchen to Eastleigh, before traversing the south coast with stunning views of the Solent enroute to Chichester.
Arriving in Chichester at 11.30 a.m. passengers can opt to explore this truly walkable city nestled within ancient city walls, with its 12th Century cathedral and towering spire as well as beautifully preserved Roman ruins. It perfectly combines the attractions of a thriving urban centre with the remains of ancient streets, walls, and gateways.
Alternatively, guests can join one of the optional excursions, by coach transfer, to the fabulous Goodwood Revival or historic Arundel Castle.
At Goodwood Revival, the spiritual home of British motor racing, guests will enjoy an afternoon celebrating bygone days, vintage fashion and wheel-to-wheel racing on the classic circuit. For those who want a thrilling trackside view of the races there is the 'Entry Only' ticket which includes admission to the festivities at 'Over the Road' or for covered and raised viewing of all the track action and access to the six grandstands there is the 'Grandstand Pass'.
Those choosing to visit the nearly 1,000-year-old Arundel Castle, will have ample time to explore the Castle, Bedrooms and Keep, and wander the magnificent grounds overlooking the River Arun. With friendly guides on hand, guests can learn about the finely preserved interior with its fascinating furniture, tapestries, and rare collection of paintings by renowned artists such as Van Dyck, Gainsborough, and Canaletto.
