SeaLink Northern Territory Launches Exclusive Tiwi Islands Escape

SeaLink Marine & Tourism

Staying at the luxurious Tiwi Island Retreat, you can travel to Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island for the unique 'Tiwi by Design' tour to be immersed in the local Indigenous culture that is full of vibrant colours, according to SeaLink Northern Territory General Manager Angela Piper.

“We are pleased to offer guests this new and exclusive Tiwi Islands package that combines a luxury accommodation experience with an amazing traditional Tiwi cultural experience,” Ms Piper said.

Guests take the ferry from Darwin to Wurrumiyanga and then travel across Bathurst Island by 4WD to meet a sea transfer, heading over to the remote beachfront accommodation - Tiwi Island Retreat.

Ms Piper said guests can fish from the beach, relax by the pool, experience the amazing Tiwi sunset and enjoy canapes on the beach.

“For dinner, you'll enjoy a chef-prepared meal on the deck, extending the glory of sunset into a relaxed evening where you will feel a million miles away,” she said.

On day two of the escape, guests will enjoy a tropical breakfast and transfer to Wurrumiyanga to be immersed in the unique and colourful Tiwi art and culture.

Ms Piper said guests can participate in a smoking ceremony, meet the local Tiwi Islands artists, be guided on a walking tour through the Patakitjiyali Museum and Mission Precinct, and learn about the Tiwi Creation story, the islands' involvement in World War II, and the islands' famous and celebrated football players.

“You can see artwork destined for international exhibitions, purchase your own authentic Tiwi Islands piece, or even throw your hands into creating your very own screen print as a take-home souvenir to remember your experience by,” she said.

“This experience combines the very best of our local hospitality with a brilliant short-stay experience, creating memories of a lifetime.”
