LATAM Airlines has increased services from Sydney via Auckland to Santiago, Chile to a daily frequency from 6 December 2022. LATAM is the only airline operating daily flights between Australia/New Zealand and South America.
LATAM recommenced flights from Sydney in March this year with three weekly services after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since restarting flights, LATAM has experienced significant demand and the airline has been working closely with Sydney Airport to increase the number of services throughout the year.
Chris Ellis, Country Manager Oceania for LATAM Airlines said “We are excited to finally be operating daily services to Santiago, the gateway to LATAM's network of more than 120 destinations in Latin America and 144 destinations around the world. Through working closely with the trade and key strategic partners, we have been able to achieve this milestone.”
“We know that there is huge interest in travelling to South America and we are happy to open the opportunity for more and more travellers to experience the wonders this part of the world has to offer. From adventure to luxury travel, cruising to trains, Latin America with all of its culture, food, wine and beautiful scenery has something for everyone.”
LATAM flights from Sydney are operated on a Boeing 787-9 aircraft and fly via Auckland to Santiago, Chile.

More about LATAM Airlines
Network Expansion
In November, LATAM Airlines exited Chapter 11 with a solid financial position and South America's largest network. LATAM's network has expanded to 144 destinations in 22 countries - the same number of destinations we operated prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. LATAM plans to operate 36 new routes by 2023 including Brazil to Johannesburg, South Africa.
Delta Joint Venture
LATAM implemented a joint venture with Delta Airlines in 2022 that allows passengers to access more than 300 destinations between the United States, Canada and South America.
Best Airline in South America
For the third consecutive year, LATAM was chosen as the Best Airline in South America at the "Oscars of aviation", the Skytrax World Airline Awards and was also recognised by passengers with the top award for Best Airline Staff in South America.
Sustainability Initiatives
LATAM has made significant changes to Business and Economy cabin services as part of the airline's sustainability strategy to eliminate single-use plastics by 2023. The Economy cabin service has eliminated more than 1,200 tonnes of single-use plastics, equivalent to eliminating 36,000 x 500 ml plastic bottles!
The Business cabin service changes include the incorporation of reusable bags to cover rest items and eco travel kits for passengers, which include a bamboo toothbrush with a sugar cane lid, earplugs with packaging made of paper and socks and eye masks made from recycled plastic.
LATAM has many other sustainability initiatives including its uniform reuse program in Peru, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Brazil, which gives a second life to employee uniforms through working with female entrepreneurs and organisations that make beautiful items from the materials.
LATAM's fleet is getting more efficient too with LATAM entering into an agreement with Airbus to acquire a total of 87 A320neo family aircraft which are 20% more fuel efficient, by 2029. The group operates a fleet including Boeing 767, 777, 787, Airbus A321, A320, A320neo and A319 aircraft, the most modern models of their kind.
LATAM has been recognised for its sustainable practices, based on three criteria: economics, social and environmental. LATAM has been part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for six consecutive years, being recognised as one of the most sustainable in the world.
Diversity and Inclusion
LATAM is the first airline in Latin America to certify its employees to assist passengers with autism and to join the Sunflower program for invisible disabilities. The certification process was carried out by Autism Double-Checked and included more than 10,000 participants.
LATAM has announced the implementation of the Sunflower badge to support people with invisible disabilities. This is a discreet tool to indicate to others that the user may need support, extra time and understanding.
