All eyes are back on the Australian jungle as fan-favourite, I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, has returned to our screens after a two-year hiatus from Australia's wilderness.
If the latest season has you dreaming of an Australian jungle jaunt of your own, Tourism Australia (www.australia.com) has shared a list of the best wilderness retreats across the country – and they're not all as wild as you might think!
Celebrity spotting in Queensland
There's no need to sleep in hammocks when visiting the Gondwana Rainforests of Queensland that claims its fame from the popular ITV show. O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, nestled in the iconic Gold Coast hinterland, offers serviced accommodation with expansive views overlooking the western McPherson Ranges. Explore the hiking trails and waterfalls of the region in search of a plethora of plants and animals dating back millions of years – including lyrebirds and bowerbirds, some of the world's oldest species. Wind down after a day in the wilderness with a spa treatment or a soak in one of the best bathtub views you'll find in Queensland. For the more adventurous, opt for an architecturally designed villa perched unobtrusively onto the sloping hillside. Prices from £95 per night
Eco-luxury in the world's oldest rainforest
Queensland's Daintree Rainforest is so lush that it was the inspiration for the movie Avatar and hailed by David Attenborough as “the most extraordinary place on Earth”. Nestled in the forest canopy you'll find the Daintree Ecolodge, offering boutique eco-luxury accommodation with stylish interiors and unrivalled forest views. Be the King or Queen of your very own jungle on the balcony or in the freestanding bath while keeping an eye out for the 663 animal species, 230 butterfly species and 2,800 plant types that call the rainforest home. Explore the forest by floating gently down the river on a raft and soak up generations-old knowledge from the area's traditional custodians, the Kuku Yalanji. Prices from £290 per night
Remote wet and wild Tasmanian wilderness
As one of the three largest cool-temperature wilderness areas in the Southern Hemisphere, Tasmania's Wilderness World Heritage Area covers almost a fifth of Australia's impossibly beautiful island state. The region is filled with wild rivers, deep lakes, glacial valleys and windswept coasts – not to mention it's ancient rainforest. Cradle Mountain Lodge is an iconic wilderness accommodation, located on the edge of the largely untouched Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Forget the occasional wash in the creek or cold shower, Cradle Mountain Lodge showcases the best of what the region has to offer, expect warm hospitality, sensational local food and wine, indulgent spa treatments, wonderful scenery and magnificent wilderness surrounds. Prices from £317 per night
Swap the Great Ocean Road for the Great Otway National Park
Located on Victoria's famous Great Ocean Road, the Otways is one of Australia's tallest rainforests where you'll find cascading waterfalls, treetop adventures and ancient plant life. Feel like the King of the jungle and spend your evening enjoying the breath-taking sunsets over the ocean or stargazing into the night in a completely off-grid and solar powered eco-experience at the luxury accommodation Sky Pods. Bordered by lush rainforest and bodies of glistening waterways, nature lovers and hikers alike will revel in the abundant outdoor offerings this location provides. Sky Pods/Sky Ships are located on a private, secluded property, just 800 metres from the sandy dunes of Station Beach. Prices from £199.95 per night
Where the snow meets the shrubs
Barrington Tops National Park in New South Wales is one of only few places in the world where you can witness snow in a rainforest. Popular for adventure-seekers, the area is well-known for its array of bushwalks, and over 50 mammals, 278 birds and 42 reptiles that reside in this bushland. On the banks of the Barrington River and nestled in the foothills of the Barrington Tops National Park, Barrington Riverside Cottages offer two-bedroom cottages with beautiful views. Prices from £168 per night
Uncover the Northern Territory's best kept secret
Litchfield National Park is located an hours' drive south of Darwin and is filled with stunning waterfalls and waterholes surrounded by monsoonal vine forests – all of which offer the perfect cool respite on a warm summer day. Don't miss the picturesque plunge pool at Florence Falls, open almost all year round for swimming, where visitors can swim behind the roaring waterfall. Hideaway Litchfield is the perfect base for exploring the area and offers an immersive luxury experience. Made up of shipping containers turned luxury escapes, Hideaway Litchfield has floor to ceiling views of the impressive bushland and is at the centre of Litchfield's waterfalls and attractions. Prices from £236 per night
Compliment bush tucker with premium wines
Not only a place for phenomenally fine wine, Western Australia's Margaret River region combines the good life with coastal and forest adventures aplenty. No meal will feel like a eating challenge in this charming region – set off on a unique dining adventure with a paddle along the picturesque Margaret River, passing Indigenous sites, native wildlife habitats, caves and cliffs while learning about the region's Aboriginal culture. Finish off the journey with a well-earned, gourmet “bush tucker” picnic of Australian wild food on the river's foreshore. Empire Retreat and Spa has 10 luxury adult-only suite retreats in a converted stone and timber farmhouse, complete with an on-site spa with large stone baths and uninterrupted forest views. Prices from £215 per night
