Specialist Journeys

Award-winning special interest tour operator Andante Travels (www.andantetravels.co.uk, 01722 237094) has added three brand new land-based tours to its growing portfolio for 2023.

The first is a twin-centre tour that discovers rock art in the Nordic nations of Norway and Sweden. Led by Dr Tertia Barnett, this itinerary is unique to Andante because of Tertia's connections in both countries and offers a chance to discover Underslos Museum and Research Centre with a very special evening rock art excursion.

Then, there is an island tour of Sardinia, which transport in 4x4s that will take guests to visit off the beaten track sights such as the megalithic chamber tomb at S'Ena e Thomes and the Nuragic complex of Sa Sedda 'e Sos Carros. The final new land tour for 2023 explores the Bay of Naples, a destination familiar to Andante travellers, but this itinerary will take guests on foot to some breathtaking hiking routes in addition to visiting iconic sites such as Pompeii and Vesuvius.

All tours include meals as per the itinerary, return flights from London, the services of an expert Guide Lecturer, an accompanying tour manager, accommodation throughout, entry to all sites as per the itinerary, taxes and tips, all local travel and field notes mailed out to guests ahead of departure.

If guests book their place on any of the below tours before 30th September, they can save up to £300pp with Andante's limited-time Pay in Full offer or can instead choose to secure their place for a very special low deposit of just £1pp.

Rock Art in Norway & Sweden
The tour begins in Alta, an area renowned in the archaeology world for its rock art. There are estimated to be over 6,000 petroglyphs here and guests will discover one of the main areas for them during their visit. As this tour departs in July, not only will guests experience the unusual phenomenon of the midnight sun, the prolonged daylight will also see them enjoy a special late-night rock art excursion by torchlight in the Swedish municipality of Tanum, where they can see examples of rock art quite literally in a different light and will be able to pick things out that might be missed during daytime visiting hours.
Departs 10th July 2023, 7 days from £4,5200pp (book by 30th September to save up to £300pp)

The Island of Sardinia
An island important for its prehistory, this tour offers a bucket list experience for archaeological enthusiasts thanks to sites that are unique to this destination. The mysterious and unusual nuraghi, conical and often tall, are dotted around the island of Sardinia and there are thought to be around 7,000 of them here. Sites to see on this tour led by expert Guide Lecturer Farès K Moussa include the only ancient pyramidal structure known in Europe from the late Neolithic period, stunning inverse pyramid-shaped sacred springs, painted and engraved rock-cut tombs (so-called "fairies houses"), giant statues of warriors and archers - possibly the earliest in the Mediterranean outside Egypt, wielding shields and bows - and controversial Punic "Tophet" cemeteries.
Departs 4th April, 9 days from £4,025pp (book by 30th September to save up to £250pp)

Walks & Archaeology in the Bay of Naples
Join Andante's ever-popular expert Guide Lecturer Tony O'Connor on this eight-day, on-foot adventure around the spectacular Bay of Naples in Italy. Walks average around 4.5 miles per day and include the famous Path of the Gods, which leads to delightful Positano along a route which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the coast, along with the sensual delights offered by the route linking Maiori and Minori, vividly infused with the scent of lemons. A day will also be devoted to discovering the haunting stories to be found among Pompeii's ruins, there will be the opportunity to hike to the top of Vesuvius and guests will explore the cavernous Piscina Mirabilis, a Roman cistern that once fed luxurious villas in the Bay of Naples.
