As the summer ends, we are looking ahead to the Autumn and the return of some of the most popular events in Normandy. Just a ferry hop away across the Channel, the northerly region is the perfect destination for a culture break as the coming months are filled with events to look forward to. All of it in a setting of gentle countryside with a dramatic coastline.

Artist David Hockney presents « his» Normandy at the Bayeux Tapestry Museum – From 22nd September to 23rd April 2023 - An exhibition of David Hockney’s famous work “A Year in Normandie” will begin at the Bayeux Tapestry Museum in autumn 2022. The original work takes the form of a 90-meter long frieze celebrating the arrival of spring in the Normandy countryside. Painted on an IPad, inspired by the thousand-year-old narrative embroidery. From September 2022, the Bayeux exhibition will bring Hockney’s frieze and its muse together in an unprecedented face-à-face, in the form of half scale reproductions of the monumental works shown.

Rouen Cathedral Light Show – Until the 27th September - The Rouen Cathedral of Notre Dame is highlighted each year thanks to an incredible show of sound and light. When night falls, couples, families, groups, tourists and the residents of Rouen and its surrounding area can be found on the Place de la Cathédrale to be astonished by this fully emotive show. Until 17th, every evening, you can see a free sound and light show of the Cathedral of Rouen, composed of two creations: “Viking” on the theme of the Norman invasions and a new creation around the theme of light, with real moments of interaction with the public.

Get a taste of Normand food at La fete du Ventre – 15th & 16th October - the “” in Rouen has become one of the unmissable food event in the region. It takes place in the historic town centre around Place du Vieux Marché and Rue Rollon. Over the weekend, the streets are invaded by producers in traditional Normandy costume. Locally farmed products which are the gastronomic heritage and pride and joy of the region are available to taste and to purchase. Apples, cheeses, ciders, jams and sweet treats will await you. These two days of celebration are an unmissable event for foodies and gourmets.

Celebrates the Chateau de Vascœuil’s 53rd cultural season – Until 13th November - In the heart of the countryside, the stunning Ch'teau de Vascœuil focuses both on history and on art, it has been home to some of the greatest artists since the 1970s. The work of the Icelandic artist Gudmundur Gudmudsson known as ERRÓ is currently featured. Co-founder of the Narrative Figuration movement (close to Pop Art), his work is made of complex compositions, explosions of colour and daring an accumulation of pictorial and historical. Until the 13 November, you can visit the castle, the dovecote and the French-style and English-style gardens, dotted with a permanent collection of over 50 contemporary sculptures.

“The Ocean of the Future” the Cite de la Mer new permanent exhibition for families – New permanent Exhibition -  La Cité de la Mer recounts man’s adventures under the sea in the great Art deco vault of what used to be the Transatlantic liner terminal. Experience the new permanent exhibition “The Ocean of the Future” to discover the Ocean, the last wild region of the planet. From the surface of the sea down to the ocean depths, the new exhibition reveals the last wild region on the planet, its wealth, its promise, and its need for protection.

The New Glass Museum in Eure this new museum will delight glass lovers - Lovers of glass sculptures, stained glass windows, Art Deco and Art Nouveau objects should visit the new François Décorchemont Glass Museum in a former 19th century hospice for decorative arts, stained glass and contemporary sculpture.
