Discover Newmarket (01638 501122, https://discovernewmarket.co.uk) has been given the exclusive chance to show visitors behind the scenes at Somerville Lodge, Fitzroy House, and Clarehaven, where Her Majesty has horses in training.
The royal trainers will also take guests to the Gallops – the training grounds around Newmarket where horses are put through their paces – to see these top thoroughbreds exercise.
The full-day tour includes a visit to the National Stud, where a special Stallion Parade will be conducted by the former manager of The Royal Studs. Plus, there will be a chance to look around the National Horseracing Museum, which the Queen opened in 2016 on the original site of Charles II's Palace and Stables.
Discover Newmarket is also offering the Newmarket's Racing Royalty Tour, which explores the town's strong connections with the monarchy for more than 350 years, since Charles II's horse won the very first recorded horse race in history. A guided tour of Palace House is also included.
Royal Yard Tours cost £165 per person and are available on 31 May (Somerville Lodge), 1 July (Fitzroy House), and a date to be announced (Clarehaven). The Newmarket Racing Royalty Tour costs £40 per person and is available on 7 May, 20 June, 3 September and 14 October, or as a private tour for a £50 supplement.
