Radisson Blu Hotel Sydney

[Sydney, 27th April 2022] Following a long and outstanding career in the Hospitality Industry, The Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney Hotel has announced that Maureen Jolowicz – Executive Housekeeper, is retiring as of the 19th of May after 22 years with the hotel. Handpicked to be a part of the pre-opening team of the Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney, Maureen's loyalty and commitment to the company are hard to be expressed in words.

At the young age of 21, Maureen became the youngest Executive Housekeeper ever in the UK (Holiday Inn). With over 49 years' worth of experience managing hotels and her many accomplishments under her belt, she has been privileged with opening key properties with some of the world's largest hotel chains including Park Hyatt, Regent, Sheraton throughout the world and supporting the housekeeping teams in Sydney, China, Shanghai, and Buenos Aires.

During her years of work experience, Maureen has been a leader within the industry, it would be an understatement to say she has a wealth of industry experience. Simply put, nothing happened in housekeeping in Sydney without it being run by Maureen. Her reputation for standards and authenticity is second to none with many of Sydney's Executive Housekeepers and Suppliers constantly seeking her out for advice on anything and everything related to housekeeping.

Maureen has been the recipient of major awards including NSW Housekeeper of the Year (presented by AHA NSW) in both 2007 and 2011. But it was in 2007 that she received perhaps the most considerable honor receiving the Carlson Fellow in Stewardship award from a selection of 170,000 employees. The award was presented at a ceremony in Las Vegas for the Carlson Rezidor group, parent company to Radisson Green, Radisson Blu, Park Plaza, Park Inn, Country Inns & Suites, and Hotel Missoni. Maureen was also President of the Professional Housekeepers Association of NSW for several years, while her main goal was trying to raise the profile of housekeeping as a profession and provide a networking opportunity for the members.

The Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney has been blessed with Maureen's leadership and innovation skills. She has been passionate about all Responsible Business projects and was the driving force behind our housekeeping initiatives joining the Soap Aid charity program and currently sits on their board as an advisor. Another remarkable initiative Maureen spearheaded was Microfiber cleaning as the initial go-to cleaning device over chemical products within the hotel.  This has led to a 95% reduction in harsh chemical use in the hotel, making the hotel a safer workplace, along with the environmental saving of 1.2 million liters of water per year.  This initiative leads the field within hotels and Radisson is proud to be one of the few Australian hotels that have already taken up this incredible initiative. Maureen spearheads the donation of rejected linen to the Clothesline charity, reprocessing linen into reusable forms for charity.

Maureen is an excellent people person - one of her many talents is that she can create connections and lead because she truly cares about the well-being of others. Maureen always strives to set an example of excellence, where she will not compromise the quality of her work or those around her. She pays close attention to what it means to keep people happy and provide an enjoyable atmosphere for them to do their best work - while also keeping herself well taken care of. Maureen is recognised throughout the hotel not only as a leader of her team, but she runs her team like a family that they admire and respect. Before the pandemic, the housekeeping department had a staff turnover of 5% unheard of in the industry. She has managed to create an amazing team over the past 22 years, including Grace Yap, the new Executive Housekeeper. Though they only worked together for a few years, it proves Maureen's strong leadership skills and mentoring capabilities.

Radisson Blu Hotel Sydney General Manager, Peter Tudehope shares, “For more than 2 decades Maureen has provided invaluable leadership for the Radisson Blu Plaza Sydney and for the industry. Maureen's work ethic, loyalty, devotion, and caring nature have been exemplary for us. Maureen will be remembered for a long time. People will be talking about her in 10 to 15 years. She has earned a place on the wall of fame. This is what happens when you do your best at what you do”.

Mr. Tudehope continues “A true leader, internally and externally, Maureen is someone who truly demonstrates our 'Yes I can” values.  Over the course of 22 years, Maureen has applied her dedication and endless effort to our hotel. We are thankful for her hard work and wish her success in this new stage in her life.”
