The Longest Suspension Footbridge in the World Is Set to Open in the Czech Republic This Summer

CzechTourism

Sky Bridge 721 has been built in the Czech Republic's Dolní Morava Resort in East Bohemia, in the foothills of the Jeseníky Mountains. At a length of 721m it is the longest suspension footbridge in the world. The Sky Bridge is a unique experience offering visitors a breath-taking spectacle and an adrenaline rush as they walk up to 95 metres above the ground. With construction now completed, the bridge will welcome its first visitors in May this year.

An unprecedented path between the sky and the ground
Sky Bridge 721's record-breaking length of 721 metres is more than two hundred metres longer than the current longest suspension footbridge in the world, located in Arouca, Portugal. Surrounded by the picturesque nature of Králický Sněžník mountain, it will give visitors spectacular views of the natural landscapes that cannot be experienced anywhere else.

The suspension footbridge is located just a few metres from the popular Sky Walk and spans the Mlýnský Stream valley from the ridge of Slamník Mountain to the ridge of Chlum Mountain. You will step onto the bridge at an altitude of 1,125 metres and off it at 1,135 metres above sea level. It is a unique technical feat in the Czech Republic.

More than just the connection of two mountain ridges
After crossing the valley to the other side of the bridge, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the local nature and the history of the area. A new educational nature trail called “The Bridge of Time” is being prepared in cooperation with the state-owned enterprise LESY ČR (Forests of the Czech Republic) and the Museum of Czechoslovak Fortifications of 1935-38.

The unique game will feature augmented reality components and 10 educational panels covering the topics of environmental protection and the history of Sudetenland in an interactive and entertaining way. The educational panels are thematically and chronologically ordered along the 2-kilometre trail and the game will take around one hour. To play the game, visitors will need a smartphone and an internet connection.

“Sky Bridge 721 is not just a structure. It is a bridge that conveys the “idea of time”. We wished to enrich the perfect views, adrenaline and experiences with the spirit of the place hidden in the local mountains and I believe we have managed to do that. The bridge will take visitors from the present to the past and back through a gripping story told by a 16-year-old boy, who, against the backdrop of events from our history, discovers answers and hidden truths in his own family. This is all thanks to an interesting game with elements of augmented reality” says Tomáš Drápal, Commercial Director of the Dolní Morava Mountain Resort.
