Tiqets

In celebration of Earth Day on 22 April, Tiqets, the leading online ticketing platform for museums and attractions, is highlighting five popular UK attractions with sustainability at their core, and which offer something surprisingly unique beyond the expected. What's more, visitors can enjoy 15% off during the month of April using a unique code.

The five attractions are:

British Airways i360

Sustainable energy is high on the agenda for the British Airways i360, a 162m-high observation deck in picturesque Brighton. Only green energy sources are used as well as energy generated from the viewing pods descent, which accounts for around 50% of the energy required for the pod's next ascent. As a result of this on-site generation, the overall energy use of the i360 is less than 1kwh per visitor

What makes it unique: The i360 offers more than a great view, visitors can also enjoy a range of activities up on the i360 such as yoga (“Yoga in the Sky”), food and drinks, exhibitions, and massages.

SEA LIFE Centre London Aquarium

Since 2014 the Sea Life Trust, in addition to offering an unforgettable experience to its visitors, has supported several causes: the creation of new marine protected areas, reduction of marine litter, protection of sea turtles, and the rehabilitation of hundreds of sick and injured seal pups. Visitors can contribute to these efforts as part of the ticket price goes to those causes.

What makes it unique: In its 14 themed zones, SEA LIFE Centre London Aquarium gives its visitors the opportunity to interact with some of the most magnificent sea creatures like penguins, sharks, and turtles. Besides that, you can book their special Rainforest Adventure to immerse yourself in a world of creepy crawlies, charming crocs, and curious critters.

Kew Gardens

Managing the extremely difficult task of being both a world leader in botanic research and an extraordinarily beautiful and popular public park is no easy feat. Sustainability and the conservation of biological diversity are king at Kew Gardens. The Palm House, Treetop Walkway, and 163ft-high Pagoda are all firm highlights.

To showcase its support for sustainability, Kew Gardens launched its 10-year sustainability challenge committed to reducing the carbon footprint and becoming Climate Positive by 2030.

What makes it unique: exhibitions, courses on gin and tonic tasting (depending on the week/season), sensory tours, and the popular seasonal highlights walking tour to immerse yourself in nature and explore seasonal plants and how they adapt for early flowering.

Hiking Hadrian's Wall

Walk this atmospheric Roman monument, which snakes its way for 84 miles over the rough, sheep-strewn countryside. You can either focus on the Wall itself or stop along the way to visit some of the many historic sites around. Their website offers a section to download maps with recommended routes to follow.

What makes it unique: In support of sustainability, visitors have the option to cycle the whole route. In fact, Hadrian's Cycleway extends from coast-to-coast and is part of the National Cycle Network.

City Cruises

As a company, City Cruises has acknowledged the sustainability challenges within the industry and is committed to a philosophy of continual improvement. These improvements are based on both internal and external operations that reflect their own ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship. For instance, they built hybrid boats powered by solar, wind, and fuel cell technology, and, more importantly, they offer carbon-neutral cruises.

What makes it unique: They offer land and water-based experiences along with many activities to do such as dining, sightseeing, and private events. They have 22 destinations spread across the US, Canada, and the UK.
