- The government has added new countries to the green list as well as the expansion of the green watch list.
- Travelling to a country on the green watch list may be a concern for UK holidaymakers, as the country may move to the amber list after they have booked their trip.
- Travel insurance policies for battleface remain valid irrespective of changes to the traffic light colour and/or changes in Foreign and Commonwealth Office advice.
Following the announcement on 24 June 2021, that more countries have been added to the green list, and green watch list, battleface reminds consumers that their travel insurance policies remain valid irrespective of changes to the Department of Transport's traffic light list and changes to FCDO advice.
Most countries moved onto the green list are on the 'green watch list' meaning that they are at risk of changing from green to amber. This is likely to reduce consumer confidence, as holidaymakers may be concerned their destination will change categories whilst away. This may also impact FCDO advisories and invalidate some insurance policies.
Katie Crowe, Director of Communications for battleface, said: “We welcome the news that more destinations have been added to the green list. As international travel opens up it is important for travellers to ensure they have the right travel insurance for their destination. As countries may move between lists, it is important to find a policy not invalidated by changes in FCDO advice. battleface offers travel insurance for all destinations regardless of their traffic light colour and those under FCDO essential and non-essential travel advisories.
Travelling abroad is not only about holidays. A recent survey* conducted by Opinium on behalf of battleface showed that two fifths of Brits have not seen their family members overseas for over nineteen months. Katie Crowe continues: “I hope that the extension of the green list will now allow many of these families to be reunited for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.”
