Mantis Collaborates With Giltedge To Create A New Package
Inspired by the East African Travels Of
Nobel-winning Author Ernest Hemingway
(June 2021) - Mantis, a leading conservation-focused hotel group with luxury hotels, eco-lodges, waterways and impact experiences located across the globe has collaborated with South African global luxury travel tour operator [with offices in Cape town and Austin, Texas]; Giltedge to create a new Ernest Hemingway package. The new package is inspired by the Nobel-winning author's literary works: Green Hills of Africa, The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, as well as his big-game travels in East Africa.
In 1933 Hemingway (and his wife Pauline) travelled to Africa for a two-month safari, which included a visit to the Serengeti where Hemingway camped out on the great plains at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, fished around Lake Manyara and finally went on to what today is the Tarangire National Park.
Following in the footsteps of the great writer in Northern Tanzania, the new nine day/ eight-night package puts safari adventure centre stage. Conservation and sustainability play an integral part too, with stays at eco-lodges/ camps which leave a light footprint and wildlife experiences which help to contribute to community upliftment.
Outline of the Itinerary:
Day 1& 2 (one-night stay) at the Siringit Villa by Mantis: Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate
Nestled between the peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, both of which are clearly visible from the property on a clear day, Siringit Villa by Mantis is a luxurious six-bedroom property located within the confines of the Kilimanjaro Golf and Wildlife Estate.
Surrounded by the Maasai Steppe, and the great ridges of the ancient Eastern Arc chain: the Pare, Usambara and Blue Mountains, the estate provides incredible views from every angle. The estate offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the 18-hole championship golf course, wildlife safari, horse riding adventures, cultural tours, and even helicopter tours.
Days 2 - 4 (two-night stay) at the Maramboi Tented Camp: Lake Manyara National Park
Situated in Tanzania's central-northern region with the Lake Manyara on its east and the Manyara Escarpment to its west, is Lake Manyara National Park. This small park is home to surprising biodiversity and features a mix of rolling golden grasslands and palm lined desert, acacia woodlands, water forests, baobab strewn cliffs and algae-streaked hot springs. Guests have the chance to see pink parades of flamingos on the lake, large families of elephants strolling through the forest, tree-climbing lions and more. A visit to the area is also ideal for those interested in evolution and the origins of mankind and an explanation of the Rift Valley and Africa's big picture.
Maramboi Tented Camp has 40 spacious tents built on ample wooden decks (among them 12 family rooms) all with en-suite facilities and private veranda.
Days 4 - 6 (two-night stay): at the Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge: Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Coffee Lodge is located between the villages of Rhotia and Karatu on the northern Tanzania safari circuit. The lodge features 26 cottages each furnished with handcrafted furniture.
Surrounded by Tanzania's highlands, the UNESCO-listed Ngorongoro Crater is best known for its natural beauty and abundance of diverse wildlife. Said to be the world's largest intact volcanic caldera, the Crater covers 102 square miles of land, and is home to the rare black rhino, prides of lions, elephant, cheetah as well as big herds of buffalo, antelope and wildebeest. The forest area is also home to monkeys, while the lake area is renowned for its flamingos and open savannahs where lions like to hunt.
Days 6 - 9 (three-night stay) at the Siringit Serengeti Camp by Mantis: Seronera
The Siringit Serengeti Camp by Mantis, in the Seronera region, provides a bespoke, glamping/ safari experience in the heart of the Serengeti National Park. With the migration route passing through the National Park guests have one of the best vantage points to view this incredible phenomenon, where countless wildebeest flood across the acacia plains. A stay here includes daily sunrise and sunset game drives where guests can spot lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant or black rhino.
The camp comprises just eight tents (which sit atop a wooden platform raised 30 centimetres from the ground), each with a private veranda, en-suite bathroom with his and hers hand basins and large shower. The concept of the camp is to connect guests with nature whilst leaving a minimal footprint on the environment.
