Notes to editors

One of the Mediterranean's most treasured coastlines can be found in Majorca. The natural diversity of the shoreline made up of cliffs, small coves and long sandy beaches, combined with its year-round warm weather, makes the island the perfect place to enjoy spectacular spots that can only be reached by boat, as well as to practice a wide range of nautical activities. Below are five reasons why Majorca is ideal for your next nautical adventure; from 40+ luxurious, world-class marinas, expert diving amenities, unique underwater dive sites to a multitude of sailing regattas and competitions.

40+ world-class marinas

Majorca has more than 40 marinas spread along its coastline, such as the Puerto Portals, with its luxurious yachts, its exclusive high-end international brand shops and its haute-cuisine restaurants. Other notable ports include Andratx, Pollença or Alcúdia. Each of them is unique in their number of moorings, cranes, surveillance and captaincy, yet all of them share a fundamental commitment to sustainability and compliance with environmental regulations.

Many options for spectator or sailor

Majorca has a long and renowned tradition of sailing competitions, hosting major international events in the Bay of Palma, which is one of the largest in the world. These include the H.R.H. Princess Sofia Trophy, the Copa del Rey de Vela, the Breitling regatta and the Superyacht or Palma Vela.

For those who are not satisfied with simply spectating and prefer to be on the water themselves, the island has different sailing schools where they can learn this sport and then put it into practice by renting boats, from dinghies to cruisers. Water skiing and windsurfing are other options available for lovers of water sports.

Discover a new underwater world

Diving is one of the island's most popular activities. Its crystal-clear waters cover spectacular reserves, with abundant marine life, interesting caves and even some shipwrecks.

Some of the recommended diving spots include Cala Millor, which has some of the most crystalline and calmest waters on the whole island, as well as one of the richest ecosystems in Mediterranean fauna. Divers will encounter species such as moray eels and barracudas, as well as an enormous variety of underwater landscapes with caves, crevices and tunnels. The shores surrounding the island of Sa Dragonera are home to another top diving location, with enormous cliffs and 50-metre high walls that reveal large pelagics or caves.

Due to most of the island's diving centres being members of PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), accredited divers of all nationalities can enjoy this underwater paradise on solo dives.

A choice of Maritime Charters

There are a multitude of companies in Majorca dedicated to the rental of boats for nautical tourism. Its charter offer is one of the largest in the western Mediterranean, with more than 500 boats based in the Balearic Islands.

Refit and Repair

Majorca offers expert amenities for the maintenance and repair of large vessels, known in the sector as Refit & Repair. In addition to the exceptional, world-class port facilities and specialist professionals, the air connections with the main European cities make the island one of the favourite places for boat captains to carry out upgrades and restoration work on their vessels.

Majorca Tourism Foundation, responsible for the promotion of Majorca as a tourist destination, is a 100% public, non-profit entity, and part of the Conseil de Mallorca, the island's governing body. It aims to encourage the promotion of the island to national and international markets, as well as create new tourist products, manage tourist services in general, and any activity that aims to promote tourism on the island. Among the main activities that the foundation carries are the organisation and participation in national and international meetings positioning Majorca's brand as an audiovisual set and film tourism destination.
