Visit Cornwall is launching a campaign to encourage British holidaymakers to discover the county's lesser-known delights following this year's G7 summit, which is taking place at Carbis Bay near St Ives in June.
In a bid to harness the global interest generated by the G7 countries coming to Cornwall (11th – 13th June), the regional tourist board has designed a dedicated media and travel trade portal packed full of useful resources. For the UK market, Visit Cornwall is also taking the opportunity to showcase the county's year-round appeal.
Announcing the campaign, Malcolm Bell, Chief Executive of Visit Cornwall said:
“Cornwall is the natural choice to host this year's G7 summit, all the themes and priorities for the UK's presidency of the G7 converge here. Cornish mines helped fuel the origins of the industrial revolution and today the region is at the cutting edge of driving the new green revolution. This is reflected in Visit Cornwall's post COVID strategy, where our plan is to build back with regenerative, competitive and sustainable tourism, preserving the amazing environment that draws so many visitors each year.
“British holidaymakers may feel that they've 'done' Cornwall, but we'd like to invite them to delve below the surface of the more obvious highlights and honeypots. By channelling our efforts into extending the tourist season, the campaign reflects the increasing number of people drawn here because of the lifestyle. From hiking for miles across sandy beaches during super low tides to cold water swimming, from incredible wildlife spotting to outdoor theatre in the depths of winter and superlative dining experiences, Cornwall has so much to offer beyond the bucket and spade holiday.
“In the new remote working landscape, it's entirely possible for people to book an extended 'workation' break here and take advantage of quieter times and places at any time of year. Without having to compromise on first-rate food and drink, culture and wellbeing,” he concludes.
With free to use imagery, newly commissioned video footage and example itineraries, the new portal VisitCornwallTravelTrade.com (launching 27th May) also features a bank of blog articles. Here, visitors to the site can access everything they need to be able to write about or sell Cornwall. Whether that's new product developments, an overview of the vast range of accommodation, activities and wellness offerings and G7 facts and connections.
