The British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) has appointed Meera Dattani to the Board, in the role of Events Director. She will be in charge of professional development workshops and networking events for members, particularly including webinars and online meetings during this difficult time in the industry.
Meera Dattani will be working closely alongside BGTW Comms Director Jennifer Howze as the BGTW continues to improve its digital presence and offer more online benefits to its members. In recent months, the BGTW has hosted online events on topics ranging from pitching updates with the UK's leading travel editors, a presentation from sustainable tourism charities, and a panel on decolonising travel writing - pitched and moderated by Meera herself.
Meera Dattani said of the appointment: “I've been a member of the Guild for four years now and am really looking forward to joining the board as Events Director. I can't wait to organise more webinars and debates that will be both useful and interesting to Guild members, industry colleagues and prospective members." Meera can be emailed at meera@bgtw.org.
Simon Willmore, Chairman of the Board of the BGTW, commented: "I'm absolutely delighted Meera has agreed to join the Board of the British Guild of Travel Writers. She's driven, knowledgeable and at the top of her game as the co-editor of Adventure.com and having recently had huge bylines in The Telegraph and Wanderlust.
“In my opinion, she has already organised one of the most important events the BGTW has ever done and I know for a fact that our members agree. I'm well aware that this is a difficult time for everyone in the industry but I am confident that the Guild will have even more fantastic events in the pipeline, and a wonderful future ahead, thanks to her joining the team.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the BGTW Board and Executives for all their hard work - it is hugely appreciated. If the Guild can be of assistance in any way to you, please do email me on simon@bgtw.org.”
The Board of the British Guild of Travel Writers also consists of Susan Schwartz, Vice Chair and Membership Director; Amy McPherson, Finance Director; Stuart Render, Awards Director; and Jennifer Howze, Comms Director. Their email addresses are {firstname}@bgtw.org.
