Polurrian on the Lizard Prepares for Summer of Fun on Cornwall's Stunning Lizard Peninsula

Polurrian on The Lizard

Cornwall's Polurrian on The Lizard hotel is counting down the days to its reopening with a focus on new menus, mouth-watering new cocktails, along with a whole new range of activities which are guaranteed to get guests - both big and small - enjoying all that the hotel and its nearby beaches and surrounding Lizard Peninsula have to offer.

New news from the hotel includes:

New Head Chef

Cornishman Liam Trathen started his culinary career when he was just 18-years-old as a Commis Chef working under Mark Aldred at The Falmouth Hotel. Liam worked his way up to acting Head Chef before leaving to join Polurrian on The Lizard in September 2018 as Sous Chef. Over the following 18 months he worked closely with a number of talented and influential chefs mastering a number of cooking techniques. During Liam's time at the hotel he has created a new take on the typical Cornish Afternoon Tea offering – and this went on to be recognised as 'The Best Presented' Afternoon Tea (UK) at the Afternoon Tea awards in 2019.

Liam like nothing better than to meet with local suppliers to ensure his menus feature the best the region has to offer.  He takes great pride in being from Cornwall and firmly believes the county produces some of the finest ingredients in the country and these have to go in to his dishes which are served to guests staying at the hotel.

New menus

The hotel boasts a brand new reopening menu using seasonal ingredients from the hotel's gardens with its abundance of herbs and coastal wild plants.  Every day, chef Liam Trathan and his kitchen team pick wild Rock Samphire from Polurrian Cove for the hotel's Fish of the Day dishes, flowers from the hotel's elderflower tree – used in its mouth-watering Elderflower Posset dessert - and many more ingredients that contribute to the flavours and offerings on its all day menu.

The hotel's restaurant, which features a Gozney wood fired oven, will be serving delicious hand-stretched pizzas alongside rustic dishes and bold flavours of the Mediterranean, made using the finest produce from Cornwall's countryside to its coastline.  Dishes include tapas starters, locally caught fish and mouth-watering desserts including the famous Roskilly's ice cream.

Even the gin the hotel uses for its salmon dish is the renowned CURIO gin which is distilled within 10 minutes of the hotel.

The hotel's fish suppliers mainly work out of Cadgwith Cove and delivers daily to its front door.  Current catch includes Mackerel and Pollock as well as the main ingredient in the following new dishes:

  • Lemon sole with garlic roasted new potatoes, seasonal greens, dill & caper beurre noisette
  • Cornish red bream, bisque cream sauce, mussels, Polurrian Cove Rock samphire & tarragon

New drinks list

The hotel has an enviable cocktail list with a strong focus on Cornish spirits and curated selection of Cornish wines as well as some of the more recognisable wines and spirits. A new cocktail list has been created including 'The Daphne' which is a gin based cocktail using locally produced CURIO Gin and 'The Polunch' with is similar to a Rum punch but with a Cornish twist! The list even allows guests to choose a Cornish spirit instead of a normal house spirit for each of the newly listed cocktails to ensure they have a full Cornish cocktail experience!

Vista Terrace

The views from the hotel are arguably one of the most dramatic in the South West and, to ensure guests can enjoy it to the full, the hotel will be making full use of its terraced gardens as well opening a lovely new sun terrace with views along the coast to St Michael's Mount.  There is no better position for guests to chill out, have a cold beer and a sourdough pizza and enjoy views of Polurrian Cove, Love Rock, the Marconi memorial and, on a clear day, Wolf's Rock Lighthouse.
