The Call of the Wild Puts the Yukon on the Big Screen

Tourism Yukon

Coming from Twentieth Century Studios to UK cinemas on 19th February 2020, “The Call of the Wild” is an upcoming live action adventure film based on Jack London's 1903 novel. The movie vividly brings to the screen the classic story of Buck, a big-hearted dog whose blissful domestic life is turned upside down when he is suddenly uprooted from his California home and transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Yukon territory in Canada.

The film is set during the Klondike Gold Rush in the 1890s and is a CGI adaptation of the timeless novel starring Harrison Ford, Dan Stevens, Karen Gillan, Bradley Whitford and Omar Sy. As a live-action/animation hybrid, “The Call of the Wild” employs cutting edge visual effects and animation technology in order to render the animals in the film as fully photorealistic--and emotionally authentic--characters.

The film tells the story of this iconic moment in history through Buck's eyes and is a gripping adventure of endurance, survival, strength and loyalty as he battles harsh winter conditions and makes both friends and enemies, before finally finding his place in the world.

Situated in the upper Northwest corner of Canada, next to Alaska, the Yukon is Canada's most accessible northern destination. Home to Canada's highest mountain (Mount Logan) and one of the largest non-polar icefields located in Kluane National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage site – the breathtaking territory is truly a winter wonderland.

The Yukon is one of North America's most undiscovered destinations; close to 80 percent remains pristine wilderness with 5,000-metre peaks, forested valleys, unspoiled waters and untamed wildlife. Roughly the size of Spain at just over 300,000 square miles, the Yukon is home to more than 160,000 caribou, 70,000 moose, 22,000 mountain sheep, 7,000 grizzly bears, 10,000 black bears and 250 species of birds, with a human population of only 40,000.
