Shiba Park Hotel in Tokyo announced on December 3rd that it will hold an event on December 31st to celebrate the coming of the New Year, and visit Zojoji Temple. This event is designed to provide a uniquely Japanese New Years’ experience for guests from overseas.
Participating guests will gather at the Japanese Culture Salon SAKURA and be given an introduction to Japan's New Year's customs and traditions, and everyone will participate in the Dharma painting. Dharma is a doll modeled after the founder of Zen Buddhism, and is known in Japan as an item that can grant wishes. Staff will have participants to take part in the tradition where you draw one eye on Dharma with a wish in mind, and, if the wish is granted in the next year, you draw the other eye.
Afterwards, staff will escort everyone to Zojoji Temple for the first worship of the year, where you can experience ringing the bell to send off the year gone by as well as other events. Guests at Shiba Park Hotel are welcome to join the event by paying JPY3,000 participation fee.
Shiba Park Hotel General Manager Mitsuo Watanabe said: “We have events where you can paint out your wish for the new year, and ring the bell to wipe away your worries from the previous year, to make your experience of the 2020 Japanese New Year an exciting one.”
Japanese Culture Salon SAKURA Manager Yuka Inoue said: “I look forward to sharing Japanese New Year's traditions and meeting the New Year together with all of our guests.”
We at Shiba Park Hotel hope to provide unique events for everyone to experience Japan's culture, and make your stay with us a memorable one.
