Cap Maison

To celebrate International Rum Day on 16th August 2019, the boutique resort Cap Maison in St Lucia is launching a 'Chasing Food & Rum' package. The holiday enables guests to explore the island beyond its beautiful beaches and delve into the food and most precious commodity, rum, produced on the island since the 1700s.

With its unique home spun creation of rum, there is nowhere better placed than Cap Maison for rum connoisseurs to sip on an endless string of rum cocktails and tantalize their taste buds with local cooking.  Launching on International Rum Day, the holiday will include:

  • Tasting Dinner with Paired Wine & Rum

Guests will be served a tasting menu with paired wines and rum at the hotel's iconic Cliff at Cap restaurant with cinematic views of the Caribbean Sea and neighbouring island of Martinique. With a walk-in cellar boasting an enviable selection of wine and rum, as well as an in-house sommelier and 'rummier' on hand to help, even the most knowledgeable of rum connoisseurs will be impressed with the selected pairings.

  • Eat Like a Local Experience

Guest can learn how to cook authentic St Lucian Creole dishes alongside Mama Madeline, mother of one of the hotel chefs) Madeline invites guests to her home to enjoy a traditional creole menu filled with colour and history and share the stories of what makes St Lucia the 'Helen of the West'. With an abundance of produce in her own back garden, there is lots of fresh grown fruits and vegetables and the occasional land crab!

  • Trip to A Rum Distillery

Guests are invited to visit St Lucia Distillers in Roseau Valley and get an insight into the production of the Caribbean's favourite drink. When St. Lucia's last sugar plantation closed in the 1960's, the Island's rum industry was forced to consolidate into St. Lucia Distilleries. The distillery now produces over 25 different rums, including the well-known local tipples Chairman's Reserve, Bounty and even Cap Maison's in-house 10-year old cask aged Solera rum. The tour ends with a 'rum-buffet' tasting area, where guests can try up to 17 different rums.

  • 'Jump up' in Gros Islet

Every Friday night starting at sunset, the residents of Gros Islet fire up their barbecues, get out the rum and ice down the Piton beer, set up table-top bars in the streets, and get ready to welcome enthusiastic revellers to the colourful fishing town's narrow streets. Arts and crafts vendors lay out their stalls, and the town centre becomes DJ central.
