The World Travel Awards Africa and Indian Ocean Gala held on 1st June 2019 in Mauritius proved very successful for the Maldives, with the destination receiving prestigious awards in the following three categories: Indian Ocean's Leading Beach Destination, Indian Ocean's Leading Dive Destination and Indian Ocean's Leading Honeymoon Destination.

VISIT MALDIVES ATTENDS FOUR TRAVEL INDUSTRY FAIRS IN APRIL 2019
The Maldives participated in four travel industry fairs in April, including the 27th annual Marine Diving Fair in Tokyo from 5th – 7th April 2019, World Travel Market Africa 2019 from 10th – 19th April and the China Outbound Travel & Tourism Market in Beijing. The Maldives delegation also exhibited at the Arabian Travel Market towards the end of April at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. During the fairs, officials and representatives from the Maldives met with travel industry professions to further develop and strengthen the presence of the Maldives in Asia.
VISIT MALDIVES SHOWCASES 'THE SUNNY SIDE OF LIFE'
DURING TWO TRADE ROADSHOWS
In April and May, the Maldives further promoted 'The Sunny Side of Life' during two travel industry roadshows, which took place in South Africa and the Middle East. The two roadshows provided Visit Maldives with networking sessions with tour operators and travel industry representatives in Johannesburg and Cape Town from 8th – 9th April and then in Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the Middle East from 30th April – 2nd May.
VISIT MALDIVES HOSTS THREE MEDIA FAM TRIPS
Visit Maldives welcomed journalists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland; the UK; and India during three media fam trips that took place during April and May. The fam trips allowed media attendees to discover the Maldives by visiting various resorts and hotels, including Kuramathi Maldives, The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, Guraidhoo Palm Inn, Liyela Retreat and Vakarufalhi Maldives. During the trips, attendees took part in activities including snorkelling, fishing and various excursions.
SINGAPORE AIRLINES SIGNS MOU WITH MMPRC TO PROMOTE THE MALDIVES
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) signed an agreement with Singapore Airlines (SIA) on 5th May to jointly promote Maldives as a travel destination. The memorandum was signed by MMPRC Managing Director Thoyyib Mohamed and Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Singapore Airlines Campbell Wilson, at Hotel Jen. Addressing the event, Wilson stated, "We are pleased to be working with MMPRC to boost travel to the Maldives. With nearly 140 destinations in more than 35 countries and territories in the SIA Group network, we are also well-placed to support the development of the Maldives' tourism sector".

HIGHLIGHTS FROM EARTH DAY IN THE MALDIVES
On April 22nd the annual Earth Day was celebrated by more than a billion people around the world, including guests and team members of various Maldives resorts. OPENING OF THE NIKA MUSEUM AT NIKA ISLAND RESORT & SPA
The new Nika Museum has opened its doors at Nika Island Resort & Spa. To gain insights into Maldivian folklore and heritage, visitors can now explore the collection consisting of artefacts, pieces of art and creations of local artists.
