NEW DESIGN MUSEUM IN MILAN

www.triennale.org

The Museo del Design Italiano, the permanent collection of Italian Design at Triennale Milano, debuts its first permanent display, directed by Joseph Grima. The Museo shows the most iconic and representative pieces of Italian design, selected from the 1,600 items in the Triennale Collection. The permanent collection is located in the curved space on the ground floor of the Palazzo dell'Arte, a space of about 1,300 square meters. The 200 objects currently on display, selected from the Museum's permanent collection of over 1,600 pieces, tell the story of thirty years of radical experimentation in which new materials, new techniques and new aesthetic codes revolutionized the established order within the domestic sphere and beyond. The exhibition spans from 1946 to 1981, one of the periods of greatest influence of Italian designers, from the post-war boom years of the 1950s, through to the early '80s, when the arrival of fresh, exuberant currents such as Memphis spelled the beginning of a new era of heightened internationalism in design production, in Italy and elsewhere.

VENICE BOAT SHOW 2019: THE ART OF SHIPBUILDING IS BACK HOME

Venice (Arsenale), 19 - 23 June 2019, from 10.00 to 19.30 www.salonenautico.venezia.it/en/

The Boat Show lands in the Lagoon: a unique occasion to celebrate the thousand-year old relation between the city and water with exhibitions, events and guests from all over the world.

The Boat Show will be held inside the basin and the pavilions of a place that is also a symbol of Venice: the Arsenale, the dockyard, established in 1104, where those ships that granted power to the Republic of the Serenissima were built. For the occasion the Arsenale will be open to the city through its Ships Pavilion, part of the Venice Naval Historical Museum, allowing the public to acces the space via its monumental entrance. The Show won't be simply about the art of international shipbuilding, but it will mostly be a moment of gathering and aggregation for families and children, as well as the perfect occasion to come to Venice with one's boat. Indeed, there will be the possibility to discover the tradition of Venetian shipbuilding, which gave life to the characteristic wooden vessel still visible today around the city; it will be possible to try Venetian rowing, a centuries-old tecnique specific of the Lagoon; and closely observe the Mose's operation centre, part of an innovative project for tide control. There will also be room for new technologies and for children, with events dedicated to them, and much more all over the water city and on the land.
