First Stages of Freycinet Lodge Renewal Complete

RACT Destinations

Freycinet Lodge offers one of the most unique and spectacular locations for accommodation in Tasmania. Nestled entirely within Freycinet National Park, Freycinet Lodge has long been a favourite within a regional Tasmanian touring itinerary.

In 2018, RACT has completed the first stages of the Freycinet Renewal Project, which was designed to attract new markets to the destination. The aim was to create spaces where visitors could immerse themselves in the state's natural areas while enjoying quality accommodation and local food and wine.

Three new accommodation spaces were created – Coastal Pavilions, Mountain Terrace rooms and the accessible Lodge King suite.

There was also an extensive upgrade of the reception, lounge, bar and dining areas in the main Lodge building.

From the inception of the Freycinet Lodge renewal project, RACT engaged developer and tourism entrepreneur Brett Torossi as project manager. Brett took a collaborative approach with the innovative Tasmanian-based design and architecture team at Liminal Studio. Masterful construction by Tasmanian builders Cordwell Lane, including building the Coastal Pavilions in components off-site and then transporting them to Freycinet in order to have minimal impact on the environment, have brought their design to fruition.

The new Coastal Pavilions at Freycinet Lodge blur the lines between inside and out; drawing the wilderness in, yet providing a superb level of comfort. The Coastal Pavilions exude grounded elegance in a superb natural setting. The buildings themselves are inspired by their surrounds, with natural timber finishes and no corners in the rooms, paying homage to the beautiful, weathered pink granite of the Freycinet Peninsula.

The architects drew inspiration from the fluid forms of the coastal granite rock formations while playing homage to the character of the National Park they nestle into. Importantly the large windows bring the outdoors in, emphasizing the experience of being immersed in nature.

The new Mountain Terrace rooms offer guests an immersive experience in the heart of Tasmania's Freycinet National Park.

Nestled in the bushland beneath the vast Hazards mountain range, guests are welcomed into the Mountain Terrace rooms with glimpses of the Hazards' pink granite peaks through double height glass walls.

Supporting the environmentally sensitive focus of the RACT and Freycinet Lodge, the Mountain Terrace rooms include improvements to water storage and reuse, as well as fire prevention systems.

The six Mountain Terrace rooms are contemporary, spacious, filled with natural light and feature touches of luxury. The king size bed, leather lounge and outdoor bathtub are perfect for relaxing and taking in the view and surrounding bushland. The rich orange, red, yellow, brown and navy tones of the interior will also help guests to connect with the natural beauty of Freycinet National Park.

Our wheelchair-accessible Lodge King is one of Freycinet Lodge's most spectacular rooms, boasting views of Great Oyster Bay and The Hazards mountains.

Located within the main Lodge building, this spacious, contemporary room has your own balcony, orientated to take in the beautiful sunsets on Tasmania's east coast. The Lodge King also includes a king bed, large ensuite bathroom and skylight to ensure natural light.

Freycinet Lodge's main building has one of the most enviable positions in the world, perched on the water's edge overlooking the waters of Great Oyster Bay and the eastern coastline of Tasmania beyond.

The Lodge's interior has undergone a tasteful refurbishment of its reception, lounge, bar and dining areas, including the installation of a lift to allow easier access between the two floors of the building.

With the Freycinet Lodge renewal project works complete, the property is ready for a bumper summer season ahead.
