The Palio in Siena is usually held twice a year, in July and August, however this year to commemorate 100 years since the ending of the First World War, a third Palio will take place in the beautiful Piazza Del Campo, on the 20th October 2018.

This was agreed by a majority of the contradas late in the evening of the 11th September 2018.

Only 10 contradas needed to say yes out of the 17. Aquila, Bruco, Civetta, Giraffa, Istrice, Leocorno, Nicchio, Pantera, Selva e Tartuca did and the majority won, so it is now official.

Only once before in 2000 did this happen since the Palio first started.
