'Entering this boutique feels like stepping into Narnia' FT How to Spend it 2017
Ibiza's best loved store, La Galeria Elefante has just launched a second boutique in the small mountain village of Deia, Mallorca. Located on the ground floor of the Villa Rullan, a newly renovated classic French style villa built in 1933. The new La Galeria boutique is a visual feast, bursting with a kaleidoscopic collection of colour-popping delights, with the same romantic-bohemian global style and ethos as it's Ibizencan elder sister. Deià has long been a magnet for famous artists, poets, writers and other creative people – most notably the writer Robert Graves. To find the store just look for the little pink elephant on the balcony railing outside!
La Galeria Elefante's philosophy is underpinned with the important message of giving back. Many of the pieces in-store involve NGOs (such as Key To Freedom in Calcutta and SEWA in Delhi) and charities and artisans across the globe in far off places such as Madagascar and Nepal. All items are made supporting, encouraging & empowering women as well as sustaining disappearing craftsmanship.
The new Deia boutique is the perfect place to find a beautiful vintage-inspired floaty dress or a pretty contemporary embroidered top. This new treasure trove contains a collection of labels including signature dresses by 'Victoria', as well as owner Victoria Durrer-Gasse's sought-after summer HAND BLOCKED PRINT collection with her friend Penny McIvor 'Sunny Day'. As well as fashion, you will find vibrant cushions, deliciously scented candles, textiles, handmade bags and beautiful jewellery, complemented by pretty garlands in the windows. The boutique's interior is filled with one-off antique furniture pieces including a huge Baroque mirror, a Norwegian Wedding trunk, French chandelier, and an Indian handpainted desk.
Victoria says 'I am so excited that with all our hard work and effort we are now able to open a second boutique in the magical village of Deia in Mallorca. Deia is delightful and the local Spanish and international residents have been fabulous and so helpful in making our journey there fun and inspiring'.
Editors Notes:
La Galeria Elefante is the brainchild of British born Victoria Durrer-Gasse. Victoria has been coming to Ibiza since the 70s as a child. She moved permanently in the late 90s with her husband and son. Studies in textiles have allowed her to further develop a childhood passion and has led her in the direction of designing clothes and artwork, with extra special attention to embroidery & needlework, inspired by her grandmother. With an inherent philosophy and passion for keeping disappearing crafts alive while supporting underprivileged & victimised people around the world, Victoria designs, creates & sources unique pieces and adds her twist. La Galeria Elefante is open all year round and the new satellite store in Deia is open between July and October.
