Breanna Gill and Vicky Uwland have fought it out in a sudden death playoff, with a par on the 9th hole enough to seal the win for Breanna. The new victor of the South Pacific's inaugural women's PGA tournament will happily be taking home a large slice of the $40,000 prize money.
This official event on the Australian Ladies' Professional Tour was held at the recently opened, $250 million world-class five-star beach front accommodation, Sheraton Deva Resort & Spa.
The competition saw over 60 players take part, with over half of the participants hailing from Australia, the remaining players made up the local contingent for a one of a kind South Pacific event. The competition has seen over 20 Australian PROS take part including Sarah Kemp, Victoria Fricot and Phillis Meti (New Zealand), all of whom are the official ambassadors for the competition.
Bolstered by perfect conditions, the winner; Breanna Gill beat out stiff competition and won with a score of 144 (par), bettering Vicky Uwland by one shot in their sudden death playoff. Close runners up were Aussie fave Sarah Kemp, who came in third with a total of 146 (+2) and local up-and-comer, Emilie Ricaud, who put in a great performance and kept the spectators on their toes until the very last hole.
Winner Breanna Gill said: “I am so thrilled to win this competition at such a stunning course and to represent women's golf at the South Pacific's inaugural PRO-AM. Competition was fierce, but moral and comradery were high and in abundance thanks to a great local crowd supporting us each step of the way!”
The stakes were high for all participants in the competition as Sheraton Deva Resort and Spa had a 'money can't buy prize' for anyone who scored a hole-in-one – free food and drink at the resort for a whole year!
All eyes were on local talent; Emilie Ricaud, who is expected to rise up the rankings to PRO level in the very near future.
