Skyros is proud to have spent the last 40 years as the leading alternative holiday, offering holidays with a difference on the unspoilt island of Skyros in the Greek Sporades.

Skyros was founded by Dr Dina Glouberman and Dr Yannis Andricopoulos over a bottle of wine with a friend in the late 70's. Flights to Greece were hastily arranged as Yannis searched for the perfect location for Dina's personal growth groups - Skyros island was the fourth and final stop – the ideal place had been found. The first season commenced in 1979 in the then almost-finished Skyros Centre.

Co-founder Yannis reflected on the company's 40thanniversary by saying, “Its all-inclusive and supportive community has helped people to explore their potential, take care of their physical wellbeing, make new friends for life and return home with the determination to run the life they choose. We are grateful to all those who contributed to the venture's phenomenal success and to the 30,000 valued guests who honoured us with their trust and support.”

Facilitators are among the best in their fields – over the years Skyros has welcomed, among others, Sue Townsend, Stephen Berkoff, Hilary Mantel and Toyah Willcox and continues to attract the very best.

Guests have included Jimmy Carr who credits the holiday with changing his life:  “I have had one life-changing holiday - on the Greek island of Skyros... I had just given up my job with Shell. I wasn't quite sure what to do with my life, so I enrolled on a creative-writing course and learnt how to do massage, in the hope that something would occur to me. People kept saying that I was really funny, and ought to be a comedian, so I thought I'd give it a go.” The Sunday Times 2008.

Over the years Skyros has welcomed thousands of guests, opened two centres on Skyros island, offered holidays in Thailand, Cambodia, Denmark, Italy, Morocco and The Caribbean and changed countless lives.
