Hong Kong's annual celebratory event, the Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Night Parade, will this year be held on the first day of Lunar New Year, 16 February from 20:00 to 21:45 (Hong Kong time) (23:00-24:45 AEST time) in Tsim Sha Tsui.
Hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), in-conjunction with title-sponsor Cathay Pacific Airways, the parade will be based around the theme “Best Fortune. World Party” and is expected to draw a crowd of around 150,000 spectators.
This year and in addition to showcasing nine decorative floats, the parade will feature a strong line-up of international performances, including 14 international and 11 local performing troupes. All up 34 groups will perform, including the following world champions and world record holders:
- XPOGO Stunt Team from the USA, holder of 13 Guinness World Records
- Diaboloism from Taiwan, world champion in Diabolo
- Zee Comedy Magic & Zeejay Juggler from the Czech Republic, award winning and world record holder
- Unicycle Circus Theatre “Witty Look” from Japan, winner of various international busking awards
- Jugglers Vision from Japan, three-time national juggling winner in Japan; including a performer from the world renowned Cirque du Soleil
