Polar Specialist Chimu Adventures hosted the exclusive opening of emerging artist Sophie Hardcastle's Antarctic Art Exhibition 'Deep Silence' earlier this week. Joined by Australian Gold Logie winning actor Samuel Johnson and renowned Sydney-based swing band Sara Jeanne and the City Gents, the event was created in a joint initiative to support Samuel Johnsons's Love Your Sister charity raising funds for cancer research.

Sophie Hardcastle travelled to Antarctica with Chimu Adventures earlier this year, a trip that left her so enthused that she decided to create a powerful body of work about it including paintings, poetry and photographs shot on film, all inspired by her Antarctica experiences.

“Antarctica has this incredible power to change you, to change everything. My trip made me realise the power of my words and paintings and how I could affect people by telling the story of my experiences at the end of the earth through art” said Hardcastle.

Commenting on her work, Chimu co-founder Greg Carter said “We feel incredibly honoured to work with Sophie. This exhibition is yet another testimonial of what a talented artist she is, capturing Antarctica in a way never seen before.”

Sharing Sophie's passion for the White Continent is celebrity Samuel Johnson who teamed up with Chimu earlier this year to host an exclusive fundraising charter voyage with all proceeds from berth sales benefitting the Love Your Sister charity.  Samuel was also present on the night inspiring guests by talking about his experiences cruising the last frontier.

“If you do one big thing in your life, make it a trip to Antarctica. I've never met anyone who has come back from that trip and not thought it was worth ten times more than what they paid” he said.

This is not the first time Chimu Adventures is partnering with well-known personalities for charity. Just recently, the travel company announced that they will be taking Campbell Remess (aka 'Bumble' – the 13-year old charitable teddybearmaker) on board their Discover Antarctica cruise departing in February 2019. The 11-day Frozen Frontier, an exclusive fundraising charter, departing 24th February 2018, will take best-selling author Peter FitzSimons on board.

“Working with personalities like Samuel and Sophie is an honour larger than life and the fact that it's all for a great cause just makes this even more exciting” added Greg Carter.

Sophie Hardcastle's 'Deep Silence' paintings will be exhibited at the ArtHouse Hotel, Sydney, until the 13th October 2017.
