Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney Hosts “Climb 'N' Dine” Stair Challenge With the Go Foundation

Shangri-La Sydney

The unique and exclusive Climb 'n' Dine Stair Challenge will dare Sydney-siders to run or walk up 37 flights and 630 steps at Shangri‑La Hotel, Sydney on 29 October 2017 for charity.

On its second year, this exciting race is the perfect event for those seeking both a physical challenge and the reward of raising funds for the Indigenous youth through the GO Foundation founded by Adam Goodes and Michael O'Loughlin.

The event has a cap of 200 competitors, and the fastest runners are expected to make it to the top in just under four minutes.  On level 36 climbers will enjoy breakfast at Altitude with spectacular views of the city.

General Manager Craig Hooley said the hotel was “delighted and honoured to partner with the GO Foundation raising funds for the education of the Indigenous youth in Australia and bring such an exciting sporting event to Sydney.”

The GO Foundation empowers the Indigenous youth through education by providing scholarships to schools and universities.  The funds raised for the Climb 'n' Dine Stair Challenge will provide much-needed funds for public school scholarships and help the GO Foundation provide Indigenous students with equal access and opportunities.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney in this exciting challenge.  We are grateful for their support and promotion of the work we do at GO,” said GO Foundation co-founder Michael O'Loughlin.  “Our public-school scholarship programme is crucial and we are grateful to Shangri-La and all those participating in Climb 'n' Dine for the funds raised.”

GO Foundation

The GO Foundation was founded by two Sydney Swans legends: Michael O'Loughlin and Adam Goodes (2014 Australian of the Year).  During their AFL careers, Goodes and O'Loughlin developed strong profiles because of their commitment to the youth and the communities, and their stance against racism.  Both have proved themselves to be strong role models for young Australians (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) and ambassadors for a range of causes, and have worked to strengthen the future of Indigenous Australians.

Today, the GO Foundation supports 17 high school students at five independent schools in Sydney, two university scholarships at the University of New South Wales and the University of South Australia, and two alumni studying at the University of New South Wales.  The GO Foundation is working hard to deliver scholarships to Indigenous students in public schools for the first time in the 2018 academic year.  These scholarships will provide funding for much-needed support to aspiring Indigenous students in need in the public school system.  GO Foundation students receive cultural mentoring, corporate mentoring, learning support and financial assistance.
