Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants debuts the luxury boutique brand's first hotel in Europe, the highly anticipated Kimpton® De Witt, located in the heart of Amsterdam. Kimpton De Witt, set within three original Dutch Golden Age-era buildings in the Palace Quarter neighborhood, strikes the perfect balance of modern luxury and historical elegance. The hotel features bold yet playful Dutch-inspired design, a whimsical three story suite aptly named Little House, which operates as a house within the hotel, a flower shop with fresh cut blooms, and an open-air garden offering tranquil escape from the vibrant streets of Amsterdam.
The hotel will honor Kimpton's flair for creating local, experiential dining options with the opening of Wyers Bar & Restaurant, serving American cuisine and cocktails with a European twist, and Miss Louisa Coffee & Beignets, a walk-up counter providing hot coffee and fresh beignets that appeal to both guests and locals. Kimpton De Witt is conveniently located only steps away from Amsterdam's Centraal Station and features 274 guest rooms, including nine signature suites – many of which have private terraces overlooking the bustling city.
“Amsterdam is in many ways a perfect fit for Kimpton's first European hotel,” said Mike DeFrino, CEO of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants. “The city is effortless in design, highly diverse, light-hearted and known to be a hotbed of creativity, all of which are pillars of the Kimpton brand. We'll be bringing Kimpton to Paris next and have big plans for other cities across the continent.”
Acquired by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) in January 2015, the acclaimed US hotel group was founded by Bill Kimpton following inspiration from his European travels as an investment banker. Kimpton De Witt is the first Kimpton hotel to open in Europe with a second hotel scheduled to open in Paris in 2020. There are currently over 60 Kimpton hotels and more than 70 restaurants across Europe and the Americas. This is IHG's 20th hotel in The Netherlands and is an exciting addition to the 675 IHG hotels across Europe.
A Modern Take on Dutch Classics
Kimpton De Witt showcases the brand's thoughtful approach to design and pays tribute to local heritage, marrying the old grandeur of the Dutch Golden Age with new buildings from the late 20th century. The hotel also embraces Kimpton's signature design with a spirited balance of wit and whimsy displayed in details as striking as the 'living wall' of florals and botanicals at the hotel entrance and as subtle as the Delft-inspired tiles paving the bathroom floors. The playful design is brought to life in the rooms through surprising yet refined touches including amusing interpretations of classic Dutch art, beautiful custom-crafted desks, unique Atelier Areti bird lamps and Pols Potten porcelain gold-dipped parrots. The hotel flower shop and interior open-air courtyard also add an element of nature to the hotel, infusing the space with color and a distinct European charm.
Kimpton De Witt introduces a personalized approach to European service, bringing many of Kimpton's much-loved custom amenities to life with a local slant. For instance, guests can pedal away and explore the city on complimentary VanMoof bikes, enjoy a hosted 'Social Hour' every day starting at 5pm and experience luxurious in-room toiletries from Amsterdam based natural skin care brand Marie-Stella-Maris (also available to purchase in the hotel's pop-up shop).
“We've been busy immersing ourselves in the lively culture of this amazing city and are excited to be part of it,” said Mike Robinson, General Manager of Kimpton De Witt. “As with all Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, guests can expect an exceptionally personal approach to service, regionally-inspired design, and a truly authentic local feel.”
A House Within A Hotel
Kimpton De Witt's most inventive feature is the three-story 'Little House,' located inside the hotel. The house was once the childhood home of the famous Dutch playwright, P.C. Hooft and dates back to the 1600s. Little House offers two king-sized rooms and a first floor living area, and can be rented by groups interested in a heightened level of privacy and luxury. Another luxurious option for guests is Kimpton De Witt's signature suite, Penthouse De Witt. The penthouse is split over two stories with a 30-square meter roof terrace offering spectacular views of the city, including views of the iconic canal house roof tops. The hotel also features a variety of art-filled meeting spaces, totalling 602 square meters, designed to inspire big ideas and showcase spectacular events. One such space is the P.C. Hooft meeting room, the hotel's modern boardroom, located on the ground floor next to the lobby.
American Comfort Food with A Local Flair
Kimpton is renowned for award-winning bars and restaurants, and Kimpton De Witt is no different. Wyers Bar & Restaurant provides a stylish yet relaxed environment to enjoy delicious American comfort food with Dutch influences, courtesy of Executive Chef and native New Yorker, Sam DeMarco (also known as SammyD). The creative cuisine celebrates seasonal produce from local suppliers and farmers and includes signature dishes like the Reuben Sandwich, Vitello Tonnato and a Kimchi Bacon Hot Dog. In addition to the restaurant, Kimpton De Witt opens House Bar, featuring an extensive list of hyperlocal gins and genevers. Set in the most historic part of the hotel, a 1645 former family home, House Bar's discreet, modern ambience exudes Dutch hospitality and experimental drinks can be complemented with cocktail-friendly bites. Kimpton De Witt guests and local passers-by can grab a hot cup of coffee made with locally roasted coffee beans and fresh sugar-dusted beignets at Miss Louisa Coffee & Beignets walk-up window, open for early morning, afternoon and evening snacks.
